3rd annual FALL 2009 - Tail of the Dragon meet - Oct. 30, 31 - Nov. 1
re: 3rd annual FALL 2009 - Tail of the Dragon meet - Oct. 30, 31 - Nov. 1
Digital Corvette Club members list for their Dragon GTG
I spoke to the organizer this evening and he said this is their first time coming down to the Dragon and his first time planning a GTG
He sounds like a real down to earth guy who loves our Crossfires.
They are staying in Robbinsville Friday and Saturday night and heading home on Sunday.
Our routes may be the same on Saturday afternoon.

Well, I have started my journey to the Dragon already. I left Denver today and I am in Topeka, KS, tonight. I just missed a major snow storm hitting Denver tonight and tomorrow (our 4th snow storm so far in 5 weeks - so much for that global warming stuff). I'm glad I left today or I wouldn't have been able to leave at all! I did manage to drive top-down for the last 60 miles of my journey tonight and of course with perma-grin.

I will have my husband make a lemon pound cake. Giving you a hard time Gary...sorry. I make a delicious moist lemon pound cake that you'll like even if you don't like lemon. I'll try to find room in my trunk to put it....don't want to hold it all the way there.
See ya Friday!

Okay, we went to gas up Olga's 'Baby' today. Topped off the tank and the XF wouldn't start!!
Now with the battery replaced, I can't wait to get to Fontana and have Pizzaguy work his magic on the RCM.
Ya'll travel safely.

well, thought I might try to make a run at the track tonight. I've been rained out last 2 wks...anyway, time will tell, if not, guess I'd better change back to street tires and think about the Dragon, instead of Draggin' as Franc has put it....Evan...you just keep out runnin' that snow, but whatever you do, don't bring it with you...everyone else be safe on your journey to the Smokies...Gary, if you are reading this, I think I will be flying in on my own...I will give you an update to where I am about mid morning Friday...see you all Friday afternoon at the Dragon....

Couple of reminders everyone.....
Bring you 2 way radios if you have them.
The clocks turn back 1 hour on Saturday night so the party will gain an extra hour...
or you may gain an extra hour of sleep Saturday night.

BUMPED ...............
Friday
Some members will already be at the lodge or in the Area.
I will arrive around 2pm
People begin to arrive and check in to the lodge throughout the day.
Dinner is at 6 and 8 and I hold a drivers/members meeting at 9pm where I ask everyone to be present in the Fontana lobby.
I take attendance and go over the agenda for the weekend as well as handing out the time line with maps.
____________________________________________
Saturday
begins at 9:00am with the Crossfire line up at the lodge.
Then around 9:30am we take our convoy of 60+ Crossfires in a continuous line (road blocked) to the Fontana Dam visitors center where professional photos are taken.
We will have a few folks directing you in to the parking area and assisting in getting all our Crossfires parked nicely and evenly to provide a good photo
We are usually there til around 11:30am and then divide into smaller groups for the remainder of the day beginning with a trip 30 miles to Robbinsville for lunch.
Fuel is available in Robbinsville for those who need to fill up.
Then a run through the Cherohala Skyway (5400ft. elevation) and back around eventually back through the Dragon and back to the lodge around 5pm.
There is then time to freshen up and then come down to the Chestnut room at the lodge for our Halloween BBQ being sponsored by CICCI.
We will start the grilling around 6:00 pm and should be starting to eat by 6:30.
Bring your own alcohol but soft drinks will be provided.
Halloween costumes welcome for those who want to dress up.
<< Saturday run here

Sunday - A couple of choices.....
For those interested, take a 2 hour trip to Asheville to the Biltmore Estate.
Map of route from Fontana Lodge to Ashville
or.......
A repeat run through the Smokey Mountains as we did in the Spring.
<< See map details
Dinner will be available back at Fontnan Lodge for those who wish to dine there.
Eventually all of us who are staying overnight at the lodge are again welcome to hang out in the comfortable spacious lobby and share stories and reflect on the weekend spent together.
This is just a general outline of the activities planned for our weekend GTG
Please drive safely and I'm looking forward to seeing you all there.
