Maryann and I are really looking forward to meeting everyone at the end of the month. A few years ago also in October, we were down there on the motorcycles. Great roads! One route we drove on that trip which we will probably get to again this year is down to a place called Bat Cave, NC. It is about two hours from Fontana on some great roads, and is a cool cider mill out in the middle of nowhere. We rode east of Ashville on the interstate to Black Mountain and then south on this rustic road, Route 9 down to Bat Cave where we visited the Bat Cave Cider Mill. This road was way cool. Tight twisties, whoop-de-dos, and very little traffic. Then continued south for a few miles to Chimney Rock. Although we didn't actually pay to go see the rock, the road up the mountain to the gate house was stellar! straight up twisties and then of course straight down. We liked it so much we did it twice. From there we continued down to Lake Lure where we ate at a place called La Strada Lake Lure La Strada Bar and Grill history which was right on the lake. Great food! It was a beautiful fall day and we ate out on the deck. It couldn't have been better. So if you get tired of The Dragon give it a try.

That sounds amazing, especially if the cops are cracking down around US-129 (like I have been reading online). Do you have any plans on doing this trip while you are there? If not, you may have to share routes with the rest of us

North Carolina Scenic Drives and Byways: North Carolina - Drovers Road
Somewhere I recently saw an article about scenic route(s) in & around Asheville. Probably one of the monthly car magazines. There are quite a few routes in the Chimney Rock/Bat Cave area as the motorcycles run these routes all the time. I'll see if I can locate some copies and post them on the Forum for future reference.

I know Maryann would sure like to go back the Bat Cave and Black Mountain is a nice artsy community. I guess we will just have to see how the w/e plays out. A word of caution...there is so much silly kitsch with Bat Logos for sale at the cider mill that it may be difficult to carry it all out. I know we had our hads full on the bikes! But now we have coffee mugs, plate frames, kitchen magnets and on and on. Ha! The donuts were good though.

There is O'Charleys a good restaurant walking distance next door for happy hour and /or dinner.

If were not at the hotel then were next door at the restaurant.
Friday morning we all leave for the 5 hour run to the Fontana Lodge with our first trip through the Dragon in route just before we arrive.
Anyone can come and join us for the pre party again this fall and the caravan on Friday (5 hours) to Fontana Lodge / Dragon.

"..... and decent temps." Whoa! Let's add 15 degrees to those temps and then we'll be okay. This is going to be a big adjustment..... It sounds like a total immersion experience.... definitely not vicarious..... see ya' soon.

55 is a great temp for the Smoky Mtns t=at that time of year, It could be snowing! With no precip, I will have the top down, freezing my wife's ____ off. I am sure that she will be happy to let you know exactly what parts were frozen.

It's too soon to say for sure. We will just have to hope for the best. Two weeks is still a long ways off and who knows...

This year our BBQ will begin around 6 pm on Saturday.
The food will be coming off the grill beginning about 6:30.
This will allow time for folks to go back to their rooms after the Saturday run and freshen up and change etc if they choose to.
It will also allow more prep time to get things set up for dinner once we get back.
I need a few volunteers to slice tomato's and onions etc.
Anyone up to the task ??
