Snow?!
Darn well better NOT snow down yonder - that's exactly why we're heading down there; to escape the cold for a few days!
We just had our first frost last night - summer's over sniff, whine .
The missus & I left the Dragon last April at 6:00AM on Sunday & drove straight through just to escape the storm that was brewing & starting to whack the midwest. We just made it before the snow started to fly. Had to drive through some serious wind & rain, though. It was ugly through No. Indiana & the Chitown area.
The Michigan contigent didn't fare as well & had a heck of a time getting home on Sunday!
Which begs the question: Gary, why don't we do this a little earlier in the fall & a little later in the spring? Not complaining - just curious.

Like many of you, I only needed 1 radio and did not need retail packaging and instructions (can download online) so I ordered from a vendor on ebay who sells single units. I received the unit yesterday and it is brand new. I got a Motorola T8500 which is a decent unit, I paid under $20 shipped. One warning, this is a battery powered (3 AA) unit, not a rechargeable, but I figure for the amount of time I will have it on, who cares if I go through 3 batteries. Here is the listing for this particular model....
Motorola T8500 GMRS/FRS 2-WAY AA Radio Walkie-Talkie - eBay (item 200373242129 end time Oct-12-09 11:09:23 PDT)
Hope this helps
John.

I'm gonnna bring my illegal, high power, 40 watt radio with the 5 dB gain antenna (on a magnet mount) and be the "Net Control Station" for the whole affair!
"Can ya hear me NOW?"
I'm not really Pizzaguy - I'm "Ray-dee-oh-man".

Looking forward to the meet and the wife asked me to search on a report of foliage in the area.
I found this which some may be interested, but I think any locals can provide a better detail.
Foliage Network
Also, not to be a downer, but apparently a THP Trooper named Garrett is on a mission to enforce the law.
Dragon News
SEPTEMBER 13: Fairly busy weekend with rallies in Cherokee and Maggie Valley. Also heard that Pigeon Forge had a good weekend with car shows bringing in the much needed crowds.
THP continues to astound us. A single female rider recently received a ticket from THP Trooper Garrett for passing another motorcycle after the leading rider pulled over, slowed way down and then waved her around. She was not speeding and eased past the other bike never crossing the double yellow. Any other rider/driver would have done the same.
Trooper Garrett cited her for illegal passing even though he witnessed the entire event. When she mentioned that the other rider had waved her around Trooper Garrett harshly replied, "he (the other motorcycle rider) didn't make the law". This is great PR for the state. The female rider visits the area several times a year and brings another ten of twelve riders with her. She is none too happy with the Tennessee welcome she got this trip.
We can understand tickets for serious offenses in an effort to promote safety, but this was just a way to cite someone for the heck of it. LEOs always say they have to enforce all the laws ..... then why don't they cite every car, motorcycle, and truck that crosses the Dragon for not sounding their horn at "every corner". It is a Tennessee law just like the crazy passing law.
On the other hand we have information concerning another trooper who who was extremely friendly and helpful at a minor accident scene. Why can't THP get it together?
