Hey Ben,

I see you have signed up for the Fall Tail. A large group of people from the North meet up Thursday Night for dinner at Florence KY as a half way point for them. Then we all leave around 8 Friday morning together for the Dragon. You are welcome to join us. I don't stay at the hotel, but I do go over and have dinner with them on Thursday. Come along if you like.

Let me know if you want to join in. If so, all you need is an FRS radio. You will need an FRS at the Dragon due to no cell coverage.

PS Surprised I haven't seen you around with your SRT. Russ is the only one I know with an SSB SRT in the area. He is in Harrison.

 

Count me in for dinner in Florence on Thursday, just let me know the place and time.

I just moved to Cincy (downtown) 3 months ago, before that I was in Lexington and Columbus so I haven't been around the area that long.

 

When time gets closer, I will give you a PM. I have to drive right by town to get on 75, we can hook up somewhere and you can follow if you like.

Come stay Thursday night (Oct 29) at the Red Roof Inn - Florence, Kentucky.
There is O'Charleys a good restaurant walking distance next door for happy hour and /or dinner.
Last time we headed over to happy hour around 4:00 and stayed until around 8:00.
If were not at the hotel then were next door at the restaurant.
Friday morning we all leave for the 5 hour run to the Fontana Lodge with our first trip through the Dragon in route just before we arrive.
Anyone can come and join us for the pre party again this fall and the caravan on Friday (5 hours) to Fontana Lodge / Dragon.

Here we are at happy hour....

 

I know exactly where that O'Charleys is, my office is about 5 minutes away! Haha!

 

I just joined the forum. The Tail of the Dragon meet looks like a good time so please add me to the list. I'll be joining on Fri and Sat with my 2006 black Crossfire Limited Coupe. Count me in for dinner on Thurs in Florence since I live close by.

Ok so I didnt reserve my room before Aug 31deadline and will need to pay the regular price if I stay at lodge. Are there any hotels that arent to far from lodge that some of you all are staying or stayed at in the Spring meet? What rooms did most of you staying at lodge reserve? They are very nice looking....I like the poolside Cabana rooms and fireplace rooms....even though the pool would be out the question. Any of you get a cabin?

 

They still have rooms in the block that was reserved , they are 75.00/ night.
Reservation desk person was very nice.
Upgrade to the fireplace room is 34.00 more per night.

Robinville is about 45 min away , it only town near Fontana village , The cabins are old ones but some have been updated , but said to be nice , I would say pay 109.00 and stay at the lodge , or get sombody to go half on a cabin

My wife and I are leaving from Fontana on Monday morning and driving up through Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg but not stopping unless needed. If you decide to stay until Monday, you are welcome to convoy back home with us.

For the people staying on Sunday, we do another drive that takes a good part of the day. It is worth the stay if you decide.

=====TRY EBAY,PUT N FRS RADIO, may want to consider the radios with the longest range 20/ 25 miles and 22 channels, maybe the motorola t8500 are t9500 xlr there are 2- 9500 at 22.00 plus ship 13.00 u may bid on those. also may consider a ear piece. You will only need 1 radio for this event! Some one else chime in Rodger that!

As mentioned above, eBay is a good place. Most Walmarts, Radio Shacks, Best Buys, & Dicks have them. Expect to buy them in a pair. Yes you only need one for this event, but they are handy for other times as well. As suggested, go for the higher power ones, but for the Dragon they are not needed. The high power is only on the upper channels. Many people still have older ones with only the lower power channels so we don't use the high power. I suggest Motorolla but others will work just as well. I would expect to pay $50 for a good pair.
