re: 2nd ANNUAL Fall 2008 "Tail of the Dragon" MEET!
Can we expect to see you at the next Dragon meet in the fall ??
If you are not driving the Dragon this fall you can ride shotgun with me.
And remember UK KEN is coming a long way to be there and I am sure he wants to meet you.
Still plenty of fun at the lodge too. Ya can't miss out on that. Ya only live 1 hour away !!
With that said who will take over when SF retires his duties late June.
I am already handling the Woodward Dream Cruise with the help of Rapps (Ann)
and would not want to take on the Dragon planning too.
The main responsibility is to maintain the list of people attending as the year continues and more members make the commitment to attend.
The list is here and will continue to grow throughout the year.

Silverfox, I have ran out of gas a couple of times now, I retired once, took a retirement job, got talked out of retirement, working harder now than before I retired, in fact, have worked 7 days straight @ 3 jobs for 9 wks now...the tank will fillup again and you will go like crazy...I have to admit, I am taking next wk off to work on the car...need to do my installs or I am going to drive to Detroit and have needswings finish it....glad I am coming to the dragon....I just made reservations...so put me down for that as well...

Bill - what's up?
Mostly, I hope you and yours are in good health.
The Dragon GTG's won't be the same without you.
If you've lost your car, ride shotgun with me and we'll bring up the rear, and make sure all of the duckies get home.
I would be proud to help coordinate these events, but I just don't have the time to do it all. Perhaps we can have regional coordinators.

Bill,
I'm not ready.
You were supposed to wait!
Wait until I had Cathy convinced and could give you the secret signal.
Then I could buy your SRTfor her.
You still owe me a ride at the Dragon so I hope you are there this fall. It's not an SRT but you can drive mine.

So, hey guys, how are we going to get this organized?
We'd best start some planning soon so this GTG doesn't turn into a train wreck.

SF We thank you for this as it is a start to build from.
He has also said he will help out with the "kinks in the road" as planning continues and just maybe he will come back
and take charge with that Marine spirit within him. With all that being said........
Basically as I see it the main thing that really needs to be done is to maintain the list of members attending in post #2 here.
The block of rooms are already available and waiting for us
All the info anyone could need is already posted in post #4 here.
Dining is at the lodge and generally done each night with two seatings.
Although it is helpful it is not really critical to indicate who is staying at the lodge
or who is driving in or which day they will be arriving and leaving.
Someone will be the first to arrive and someone will be the last to arrive.
Everyone is generally there by early Saturday morning.
I among a few others will be arriving Friday afternoon and leaving Monday morning.
We can hold a meeting at the lodge Friday night for those who are there
and again Saturday morning for those who drive in early that morning.
At that time we can form groups for the drive and first go to the Dam for a parking photo shoot.
We may not have a professional photographer present but most of us all have our own cameras and pretty much capture the moment.
As for Dragon driving photos they are also nice but can we live without ?
This is all about meeting, socializing ,dining and driving and I think once we are all there it will all come together with a couple of meetings.
I may be simplifying things here a bit but I think we can still have a successful event.
Consider this a vacation you need to plan without the help of a travel agent.

re: 2nd ANNUAL Fall 2008 "Tail of the Dragon" MEET!
I for one, concur with Valkryderguy. I'm signed up, reserved my room and (given no unforeseen circumstances) will be there. I believe Oledoc2u may still be coming and we can pick up with Valkryderguy outside of Louisville. After that, those of you who have done this before can layout the routes and rules to us who are uninitiated on Friday night at the lodge. If we put someone with previous experience in front of the pack, the rest of us should be able to find our way. If the bar has a single malt or even a good blend (I cut my eye teeth on Bells 45 years ago), it'll be a heck of a good time.
In 3 weeks I will be away from this e-mail station, and I won't be back on until October 1. At that time, I'll pick up the pieces and start communicating again starting with Jane, oledoc2u and Valkryderguy. Whatever I can do at that time, I will do. I'm looking foreward to it!

p.s. Thanks again Silver Fox. You got me started on this and I'm going to keep at it. (Hey, I just found out how to do my first smiley face)

So as far the rest of my post...what do ya think ??
re: 2nd ANNUAL Fall 2008 "Tail of the Dragon" MEET!
I think we'll be fine, Gary.
There should be enough of us who've been before that can keep people pointed in the right direction. If possible, both the first and last on a team should be familiar with the route, and give a radio to the second (or the first car's passenger) and last car.
However things work out I'm sure we'll all have fun.

I agree. I'm thinking of driving up on Thursday and making a big loop dry-run (hopefully, since it rained the whole weekend we were there in April....LOL) on Friday morning before most folks start arriving.
I have a set of radios that I will bringing as well.

I have a meeting in Chattanooga in last part of this month. Going to take the long way home thru the Smokies. I told Cathy it would be nice to take the scenic route home to St Louis, maybe stay in a B&B in Dillsboro NC, but she knows, I'm itching to practise downshifts on 129.
See ya' all there this fall.

Hey Everyone:
Been in San Francisco, so am just getting caught up on the forum. I would also like to extend any help that is needed for the event. If things go as I've planned, I'll be coming in on Thursday to drive the loop in good weather. Will be happy to lead a group. I don't think I'll be providing ladies activities as I think we can all socialize together in the evening. Maybe we can do some planning on Thursday. I would favor having a plan to welcome drivers, making sure we have a simple agenda outlining when we will drive the loop along with a simple map of the loop. For new drivers, we need to make sure we do some brief education about the loop and basic driving skills, safety issues and most importantly, staying to the right of the yellow at all times.
