The Vendors get one table, if the Members don't use them both themselves! (I don't think so, but they are 1st as I could only secure 2 tables for this Weekend.)

re: 1st annual Spring 2008 "Tail of the Dragon" MEET!
I'm not sure I can dig this new turn respecting the GTG at the tail of the
dragon. What was originally meant to be an informal, fun time for folks
to get together, admire each other's taste in cars, and have a good run or
two down the dragon, is turning in to a stultifying, overscheduled and
formal event.
Don't get me wrong, I am appreciative of Bill's efforts to call us all together
for a few days, but the anarchist in me has been bubbling up ever since
the first reference made by Anthony about having TVT represented and
offering toys at the meet. I had thought things were smoothed over after
the initial brouhaha, but I guess I was wrong.
Strictures on when and where the vendor can set up? Requireing that the
vendor provide some product as a door prize? Can't have vendors
impacting the "schedule" (like it was closely followed last fall). I'm
wondering if a fee will soon be charged just for attending. Sheesh, this
"schedule" is starting to take all the fun out of things. What do we really
want for this kind of gathering? A formalized event like would occur
at a political ralley, or a loose affiliation of those with similar interests
who aren't needing so much order?
No offense meant, Bill, but you are coming at this like a Marine. Lots of
order and discipline, and a regimented focus on detail. Been there and
done that, while in the military. And, it is very useful in its place. But, I'd
like to see this loosened up a little. Let the vendors have some of the
freedom they deserve.

I want this Meet to be whatever the Member Driver's let it evolve to, "Nothing Overly Formalized", but , We do have to be in the Same Spot at the Same Time to Get in the Same Group Pic, agree? (That is a Schedule Requirement & there are other's) (In the same vein, No one needs to go to anything at any time.) (There is Total Freedom for you all!)
Those (2) Tables (& Only 2 Tables) I arranged in the Lower Lobby (after quite a bit of trouble, I might add, as we were beat to that Area by another Group), should be for Our Members First & Only if, we fill them, the Vendors, then can Fend for themselves.
Anyone else's thoughts on this, I'm 'Almost', totally Flexible?
SF
BTW The Scheduling comes from Tax Seasons as a CPA for 35 years, not as a US Marine NCO, for 4 years so many years ago!
Also, Yes, there is a Need for a Small Fee, maybe $10 or $15, to cover the Common expenses of the Meet, as I have personally been covering these so far & I'm Not Complaining!
(Just a few of my thoughts, as I slip into my "Flame-proof Suit".)

Bill,
I think your reply is right on. It's an event for hanging together, with some break-out sessions for those who want mods. This is actually a great opportunity for those that want parts or mods(especially an ECU upgrade) and deal with the vendor first hand.
Keep in mind, the more members, the more opinions. It's to be expected. No one will ever be 100% satisfied.
Keep up the good work.

from '67 thur '69 riding half-tracs. I, myself served with the CCT in the
USAF, though I never saw combat. (CCT, Combat Control Team. One of
Two Special Ops AFSCs in the USAF. These are air traffic controllers who
perform their job behind enemy lines. Also provide FAC support).
Maybe folks who attend could provide a little support, out of the
generosity of their hearts, but let's be real... this was a chosen task,
one which I thought you were taking as you love'd the car the the
people who owned them. If you want to turn it into a commercial
event, it could be far more trouble to you than it is now. As a CPA, I'm
sure you are aware of the cost and time spent on adhereing to all the
various regulations which would then apply.
I guess it is just a minor difference in perspective. There are those
who like as little "overview", ala "flash mobs", and those who like a bit
more stricture around their activities (think debutante ball). I agree
that the scheduling of the group picture is important (and I hope folks
are a little more timely in arriving for that this time around, it really
pushed the "schedule" back last fall), and a scheduled run down the
dragon or the skyway (or loop) each day makes sense, but the rest
should be free form, in my humble opinion.
I guess that is a little more than $0.02 worth, but that's how I feel. When
I get a PM from a vendor telling me that they may just bow out due to
the pressure to conform, and such limited time between scheduled
events, I just feel things are moving in the wrong direction.
Anyway, I hope all works out and everyone has a good time. I don't
like to play the part of the wet blanket, but there it is.
Sincerely,
Coyote

It was Not My Pressure, I've Done No Pressure at all,the Schedule is the Pressure.
Remember, the Meet Came First! Not the Vendors, so I guess the Meets Schedule should be First & The Vendor's Schedule 2nd, wouldn't you think,
but It's a Free Country thanks to the US Marines & Others who have served this Country in War & Peace & whatever! So, go where you want when you want, But, Remember the Vendors wouldn't be there in the first place if it wasn't for the Meet!
I'm going for a Ride in My 'Fixed' Roadster, right Now!
Later......................

I'll be curious to see how many cell phones work for everyone, last time lost my signal an hour before I even got to Fantana Village. I believe a few people who had Verizon were able to get intermittent signals in certain areas.

Actually, I think Carlisle would be the best place for these types of tune-ups.
A long line of XF's parked side by side, not going anywhere.

it all depends on your carrier but it seems most had no cell service within a hour outside of Fontana.

You'll have Great AT&T service in Knoxville & South for awhile & then again around Marysville, before entering the Dragon's Den, about 45 Min from the Lodge.
Also Everyone will get good Cell reception in Robbinsville 18 Miles, 25 minutes from the Lodge to the Southwest. We will stop there for Lunch at Noon Sat on the Big Loop Run.
The Pay Phone at the Lodge is $1.00 for 10 Min (A Good Deal, for a Hotel), but Not in the Room!

as for the schedule, if you remember the only real reason for the schedule was so that we could fit in everything we were trying to do in the limited time available, and not have to drive the dragon at night fall. as has been said numerous times before, if you dont want to participate dont, do what you please, but in the same respect i do believe the majority of the group will be out doing the scheduled stuff, and when you want to meet up you will know where we will be. thats the idea of the schedule, if you want to meet up for the pics but dont want to do the loop, you will know where the main group will be when we are done.
now as far as a fee, a $10 or $15 dollar fee doesnt seem all that crazy or expensive, bill books photographers runs back and forth to the hotel to meet and make sure everything is taken care of, im sure he has racked up a phonme bill due to all of this and what we are just supposed to have him pay for all of this but not reimburse him? all the talk about i make x amount of dollars and im a doctor or lawyer and all of that and people would ***** about 10 bucks? this amazes me, with 60 xf's that comes to $600 if he is making a profit off of that i would be amazed, and if there was a lil left over i wouldnt care if he stuck it in his pocket, aftyer all i would believe bill has spent more than 40 hours between setting everything up scheduling promoting, phone call after phone call, thats a weeks work, what do you make in a week?
Bill keep up your hard work and dont get discouraged, i had a great time last year, and im sure everyone will have a great time this year! the "schedule" didnt have us running around like chickens with our heads cut off before and im sure it wont this time, it was actually very well layed out and gave us all plenty of time for relaxing and b.s.ing and of course drinking! lol
