Door Pin Surrounds...
Re: Door Pin Surrounds...
I know on their site and on ebay it says to just pull the old surrounds out and put the new ones in. My only concern is I have one of the first Crossfires produced, and I know Chrysler might be cutting corners to reduce total cost (such as glue . I just wanted to know if anyone else has replaced these and if so, were they glued and did they just yank them out...
Thanks
Thanks

had a thought, yeah I know scary. anyway what if you unlock the door, remove the door pull/pin. then lock the door so you have the open hole. Now bend a stiff wire /coat hanger into a small hook and see if you can stick it into the hole and then pop it out from behind. Maybe even wrap some electrical tape around the wire to keep from scratching up the old surround. Like I said, just a thought.

I can tell you that getting the surrounds out is a piece of cake compared to getting the new ones screwed in. They fit very snug. I had to use pliers to get them screwed into the door. Then I had to sand/polish to try and get the scrape marks off the surrounds after using the pliers on the aluminum.
I would suggest that you use a touch of grease or some sort of lubricant on the surrounds before screwing them into the door. That will likely help a lot. Good luck.

Re: Door Pin Surrounds...
okay. i just did this.
i learnt through trial and error on the first door, and some scratched tint on my wondows, that will have to be repaired.
anyway. imo. best way to tackle it is to actually remove the pins. allows you crush the the plast surround inwards using a set of needle nose pliers. pull. dont be gentle. you ar going to lose it anyway. the plastic surround is going to be a right off.
as for the new surround. my one were not fully threaded. thead ended about 3 mm to the top. so i did see the point in destroying them using pliers to screw them in.
anyway. my way. a piece of felt. a hammer. felt over new chrome surround. tap. tap. bash. goes right in. it has some movement. use a syringe and push some sicaflex in there. problem solved. takes 4 mins. saves the chrome piece from damage.
I also put the chrome door pins in. looks great.
and yes. righty tighty. lefty loosey.
