Yesterday, I was shoveling up some sloppy slush in my parking lot where my girlfriend and I park our cars. I knew it was going to freeze overnight so I wanted to get rid of it.

*Three weeks earlier in Wal-Mart* I'm looking in the back section of home and garden for a shovel with my girlfriend and I say to her "darn they don't have what I want" and she says "A shovel is a shovel just pick one!" and I say "All these shovels have that steel blade on the tip these could be dangerous to our cars."


I think you know where I'm going with this story...

I'm always thinking ahead about this type of stuff.
I just don't like taking chances no matter how careful a person can be,
I always believed, "If you create a situation where something can happen, eventually it will".

Sure enough I get all done I'm taking one last look back making sure I didn't miss anything.
I swing around and BLAMMO, 4 inch long scratch down to the metal on the front fender near the headlight.

 

Ouch!

Yup, that is why I only use a plastic shovel when I am working around the x-fire.

 

I hate when that happens...but you knew it would. Sorry.

 

women will do that to you. it starts with a shovel is a shovel. next a power tool will become just another power tool. finally, a car is just a car, so just pick one as long as it holds the wife, kids, and the dog. it will be simplest to consider getting a new girlfriend. don't worry about it too much. accidents happen. at least you know who did it and you didn't just find it with the scratch. hopefully, you can get it fixed, and move on (to the next girlfriend).

 

sloppy slush??? freeze??? That stuff sounds down right dangerous or disgusting at least.

 

I have to add that it wasn't all just "oh darn", I'm sure you can imagine the all the sick filth pouring out of my mouth for a few minutes.
It wasn't just a day wrecker, it was a month wrecker!

 

Yet another example of why my car is put away for the winter.

 

Well don't feel bad things happen. Quite a few years ago we had an ice storm and I drove my shiny new Z28 onto the parking lot at the mall where I worked. I was doing 5 miles an hour, creeping. I had a light pole I parked next to lined up and I slowly approached it, and approached it and bang. I couldn't turn, couldn't stop all I could do was watch the light post, in what seemed like slow motion, go right into the side of my car. It did about $900.00 worth of damage, this was back in 1970. Needless to say I was sick about it.
Get it taken care of and you'll forget all about it.

I always say "Right tool for the job, and things always turn out perfect." I'm with Rob... maybe another girlfriend would do you a world of good, an I would not speak of it the next morning (the overnight new girlfriend that is).

I still have the shovel. I'm not one to go off on a tangent and break stuff just because a messed up. I have more self control than that.

Now I will for sure have to get the full $15 dollars out of the shovel that cost me about $400 bucks so I will keep it.

 

Wrap the shovel up and give it to someone who drives a beater in the winter, buy a rubber one with the money saved cause you didn't need to buy a present.

You said yourself allow the situation to occur and it will - your new girlfriend will probably "do you a favor" and clean the snow up next year, slip and drive the shove through the door!

 

A very mature response, for sure. Personally, I would have blamed the whole thing on the evil shovel, and bent it back and forth to kingdom come. I might even utter "there, how do you like that, you selfish piece of SH--". Afterwards, I am sure that I would gloat about my victory over the shovel for a while, then probably slide into a deep depression about my car.

Then again, I might just go inside for a beer at that point and chalk it up to "oh well, Sh-- happens. It's just a car". Yeah, right.

I thought of you today as I passed my baby holding a leaf rake and a hoe. i felt your pain, fortunately I passed without any damage. Note to self, fix the side gate.
