What was he thinking?
Ok here is the deal... There is a guy the lives pretty much next to me that owned a white XFire (Black SRT knows who I'm talking about). Well after I bought mine, I ran into the guy and was talking to him. He was telling me about how much he hates his Xfire. Talking about how the paint chips really easy and then proceeds to tell me that he just drove it down a gravel road flooring it the whole way. Hmmm I wonder where the chips in the paint came from??? I will give you 3 guesses and the first two don't count. Even if the paint does chip easily driving down a gravel road, ***** first isn't going to help. I haven't had any problem yet with chipped paint. Anyways, he was talking to me about how he wanted to get rid of the car since he hated it so much. He wanted a 350Z when he bought the XFire. So I came home the other day and the guy has a brand new convertible VW Bug!!! Does anyone else see this as an odd downgrade? I know I would never own a New Bug. I know VW makes good vehicles but come on.
Re: What was he thinking?
What a mistake. I owned a '03 VW Bug Convertible 1.8T. It was a nice car with the 1.8 turbo engine, big 18" VW upgraded wheels, 6 spd tiptronic. The car was orange with black interior. It was a neat car and fast and very retro, HOWEVER the car wound up being a lemon and was replaced with a new Audi A4. The car was just a nightmare, the convertible top would jam all the time and the electronic convt top boot lids would stay up in the open position, the transmission went into limp mode like 3 times, the sunvisor fell when i hit a speed bump, stereo was replaced due to faulty buttons falling into the stereo when pressed, etc.
I agree with the point your trying to make, the Crossfire is definitely a step up from a convt. bug anytime. Now why he chose that car after the XFire is puzzling. They are two totally different types of vehicles.

I have to agree about the chick car part as well. I don't know the kid isn't very smart. I was talking to a couple of people that know him the other day and he wanted to trade in the XFire for a charger but the Sales person that sold him the XFire wouldn't do the deal. But again how do you go from wanting a charger to wanting a bug? I really don't think this guy is all there in the head. As for him liking the Vase well you never know in this world anymore.
Re: What was he thinking?
...I guess if I owned a New Beetle, I wouldn't particularly care if the paint chipped, either. How can you explain that purchasing decision to your buddies?
Regarding Crossfire paint durability, I have been quite satisfied. Sure, my Crossfire usually spends Monday through Friday tucked away under an Evolution3 car cover with a fresh coat of wax on it. However, there have been many occasions for rock chips and other minor damage to happen just driving on Michigan highways. Michigan is in a perpetual state of road construction and road repair. Every day, I will pass at least two gravel haulers spewing rocks and debris from their undercarriages (regardless if it is a weekend jaunt or workday commute). The center shoulder is usually full of stones, pieces of tires, etc. And, as a result, every new car that I've owned gets its share of rock chips before the first oil change even comes around. With almost 4,000 miles on my Crossfire now, there are a few tiny depressions on the glossy (black) bumper where a stone impacted, plus two tiny chips above the wheel arch on the right front fender. I know they are there, but most people would never notice.
I was actually wondering, since the front bumper seems so impervious to rock chips, if the gloss black was actually molded into the bumper, rather than painted on it. If you bought a base Neon in a non-metallic color after 2000 model year, you got this glossy molded-in color. DC still owns that technology, and in my opinion, it is a great idea. Anyone know if base or non-metallic Crossfires have molded in color, for their bumpers?

I hope you didn't take me saying chick as a bad thing malcb. I have great respect for women. I just think of the bug being something I could see my wife driving around not me. Now I think my wife looks much hotter driving the XFire then a bug but the bug just isn't a guy car. That of course is my opinion.
Re: What was he thinking?
Wow, just wow. I don't know this guy personally but I do know some people that do. I'll have to see if I can find out anymore on this. Does he have a wife? If so I'm will to bet that had something to do with it. But I really hate people that do dumb stuff to their cars and then blame it on the car. Personally I'm glad the guy sold it, because idiots like that just give the car a bad name. About the only things anyone could complain about is the sunvisors, the fact you can't adjust the wipers delay, and in my case it the hatch's bump stop design. Oh and more power would be nice, but that all cars in my case, lol.

don't care if he does if you are wondering if I'm affraid of him seeing what i say about him I will tell him what I think of him to his face. The other night I was getting out of my XFire when he pulled up in the bug and told me I needed to clean my car and that I need to keep it clean. I just smiled and walked off.

Come on guys, give the poor fella a break!
It's possible he just woke up one morning and realized that he was living a lie, and decided to come out of the "garage" and show the world his true colors. That he's been a "closet Bug lover" his whole life.
Maybe he was simply over compensating when he bought the SRT6.
