South Carolina <Charleston> $3.39 for "regular" ~ 23 cents more for high test which I put into my Crossfire. However ~ we lived in the UK for four years and paid $6.00 per liter ~ so $3.59 isn't all that bad in my book.

Thom:
I was under the impression it was $6.00 per U.S. gallon, which, if I remember correctly is about 2.5 litres. $6.00 per litre seems high even for Europe, but it has been a few years since we lived in Germany and Italy. Please correct me if I am wrong. I just filled up last night at $3.29 for premium and noticed this morning it had dropped to $3.19.

Thanks,
John

no its 91 pence (or thereabouts per litre) so put that at abut $1.60 *3.78 = $6.05 per gallon.

Now if you're talking an imperial gallon (no used since 76) then its:

$1.60 *4.54 = $7.26 per gallon.

Since the USA has keep gas prices lower than the rest of the world for so long, didn't we expect that sooner than later we'd be paying the same here as in England? The world price people pay will now be close to the same everywhere! So we will all PAY!!!

We won't be paying anything like what Europe pays, because the majority of the cost in Europe is TAX and the US government knows better. The last thing any administration needs to deal with is a gasoline crisis like the late 70's early 80's. Bush has three years left, he can't not act and potentially screw the next republican candidate.

What you'll see if gas prices come down to about $40 a barrel over the next year or so with Gasoline prices dropping to less than $2 a gallon in the 18 months leading up to the next election.

The fact of the matter is that if you look at the worlds oil drilling and what they think is left, for the last 20 years the number has gone UP not down, that's due to better technology, refining and cheaper costs. Gasoline will be around long after we are gone. However if any of you play with the stock market there are a few good alternative fuel companies starting to make their mark, their costs are coming down substantially making alternative fuels more competitive but some share and these will work out long term.

One last thing is you are looking at a hybrid, forget about it, you won't save any money. i think 300K miles is the magic number when you start to save money on a hybrid (purchase price of hybrid model vs regular model, maint costs, new batteries after a few years etc etc). Fuel cell will be the way to go!

We are all hostages of gas prices, but ask why prices are higher than ever. There are several reasons: 1) World consumption is at an all-time high. The world economy is like a runaway train, and if the world is consuming like there is no tomorrow, of course you'll see an incredible increase in fuel prices. 2) Seems like everyone needs to own a monster-sized suv, and, since these things average 10 to 14 miles per gallon, of course fuel consumption will be up. 3) With everyone wanting to buy the cheapest thing they can find, which happens to be made in China, the Chinese are profiting from our stinginess, making their economy explode, which means their oil consumption either matches or surpasses the U.S., and, again that tightens oil supplies.
If people really want to see a decline in gas prices, i suggest we go back to times like the 80's -four-bangers or V6's, be fuel-conscious, conserve like we did in the 80's when we saw gas prices drop below a dollar-a-gallon, maybe we all could relive that era again.

Gas prices do stink at the moment, but I'm glad I get the gas mileage I get. Sometimes even 32 mile to the gallon.
Anyone know of any cheap additives that can be done or added to the Crossfire to get more horsepower?

Brittt1 you are right. In Europe we have huge taxes any gasoline (benzin and diesel).
Example from Switzerland: 1 liter Super (95 Octane ROZ) is today 1.75CHF (1US$~1.22CHF). About 0.73CHF is tax. It's only the bare gas price that rises everywhere almost the same.

But don't worry too much, 20 oil-tankers from Europe are chartered and will be soon on the way to USA ... prices dropped already a little.

I bought premium for $3.03 in Huntington Beach, CA this AM. That was an ARCO station. A block away the Shell station had it for $3.13. You'd think the added cost would at least give retailers enough extra money to wash their towels.
