My first trip - about 900 miles
My first trip - about 900 miles
I tried to run around 80 mph when possible and averaged 30 mpg with one passenger and a hatch full of luggage. I found the XF very comfortable and so did my wife ridding passenger. I used no noticeable amount of oil. The car ran perfect. The outside temperature hit 104 degrees while we passed through KY and the air-con kept us cool. I don't think you can ask much more out of a car.
One note, the XF will hydroplane but I'm used to that with the our Vette.

Re: My first trip - about 900 miles
Yes, I also went on a trip last weekend and was comfortable as can be and also had the sporty side when I wanted to carve the canyon.
LOL, we also hit a little rain and did a little hydroplaning ourselves, luckily its much worse in my Porsche so I to was used to much worse.
Great car for long trips, the only down side is not being able to recline prone at rest stops.

Wow, my back is hurting too but I thought I strained it at the pool. To me the seats are comfortable but on a bumpy road or bouncy interstate the suspension could compress the spine. Don't get me wrong, I like the solid feel you get when you hit a bump but maybe it can be rough on your spine. I do drive with the seat back all the way. I have experimented with the steering wheel position and I have everything adjusted the way it feels best but I suppose another 1/2 inch of seat adjustment would be nice.
Re: My first trip - about 900 miles
Just finished two 500 mile round trips. At 6' 3" I thought that I may have a problem but did not. I readjusted the seat a couple of times as a change up, other than that-could have driven off into the sunset. The car handled well and actually seemed to smooth out at around 80. One guy drove up next to me on the Mass Pike and stayed next to me just to give me the "thumbs up". Gotta love it!
Re: My first trip - about 900 miles
I take mine back to my home town of 1500 people once a month. Its a 3 hour drive and i'm absolutely comfortable the entire time. I'm 5' 10" and 170 lbs and i think the car fits me like a glove, the GF gets claustrophobic but I just tell her to stop being a prissy bit*h, lol jk.
Just move the seat around after a bit for a change a position for your back.
I just love the double takes and rubber necks you get in a town that will never see a crossfire again or ever have in the past.

Re: My first trip - about 900 miles
I think the problem with my back stems mostly from the gas pedal being a little closer than the clutch. I find that I have to keep my right foot in the same position on the petal, but to use the clutch I have to stretch a little further -- regardless of the seat position. Since I don't want to sit right up close and I can stretch out, my back muscle will get kinked up spasm.
Re: My first trip - about 900 miles
I recently drove Las Vegas to Portland, straight through, stopping only for gas. Took about 16 hours but it was comfortable all the way. I am 6' tall and had to adjust to a more upright driving position than I am used to. Now that I found it, I like it and readjusted the seats on my other cars.

Drove the Crossfire to Columbus, Ohio this past weekend which is approx. 2 hours from where I live...found a decent driving position (6' 2" tall) although my right leg was stiff when we got out of the car. My left leg is ok because, I can adjust it but the right one is stuck in one position against the console. Did average 28 miles a gallon though which isn't bad at all. Love the car...just wish I knew where to put that leg???

i see in your signature...you have a "lil red express". cool truck...that is rarely seen any longer.
Re: My first trip - about 900 miles
Well hello fellow buckeye...yes I told my girlfriend we could go to Easton Mall and that gave me an excuse to drive the Crossfire. She loves the car and being that she is 5' 9" and has no problem in being comfortable in the car. We were also going to stop in Grove City at the Chrysler meet but since the weather was iffy decided against it.
Yes I do have a lil red express...bought it new in 1979 and it has 15,000 miles on it. It is a quick truck for the day and it does get alot of attention since you see so few of those. They only made them for two years! Maybe that will be the Crossfires fate too. Hope not since it is a great car and if more people just knew about this vehicle and drove it along with the pricing there would be no problem with sales.
Take care Andrew and GO BUCKEYES!!!

Re: My first trip - about 900 miles
After seeing if I fit in about a half dozen different C-fires, I just about gave up on buying one, (I'm 6' 2''). By winning one on EBAY from a dealer 9 hours away from Akron, Ohio pretty much promised me a long uncomfortable drive home. But when the salesman brought the car out of the service dept. for me to sit in for the first time, I was amazed at how much room I actually had. I told him this was the first XF I fit in. He then proceeded to show me the trick to adjusting the seat. With the upper cushion almost vertical, he brought the entire seat back as far as it would go. I then got in and was able to tilt the upper portion of the seat to it's max reclining position. Of course by moving the seat forward in small increments, I was able to tilt the seat a little more each time. I drive with my Knees about 1" from the dash, but thanks to cruise control I'm able to change my legs position on long trips. The XF has the hardest seats of any car I've owned, but I'm getting used to it. Wallet relocation helps. The 9 hour drive home was a blast, and even though I've had to change my usual "arms straight out" driving position, I'm still comfortable, and so far, every trip is over to quickly. Greetings to KMAG and Andrew from a fellow "rust-belter". Is this a great web site or what!
Re: My first trip - about 900 miles
That is very true...the "rust belt" it is. That is why the Crossfire is going to be put away in the winter and kept nice. No ice and snow for that car. The Durango can handle those chores in winter and it does a great job of doing that. I will try your suggestion with the seat and see what happens.
