Help!! Need advice
Help!! Need advice
Hi everyone,
So last night some jerk hit my front driver side bumper destroyed the headlight and obviously everything else that is in that general area😭😭🤬🤬
. Accident is not my fault and now his insurance company wants to total my car and I am very upset about it. My question to everyone out here is would it be better to fix my car, sell it for parts or let the insurance company have it which absolutely infuriates me. Please note that other than that my car is in great condition.
Non-crossfire owners do not understand how much we love our babies so I would love input from everyone that understands how I feel about my car.
Thanks

That is a hard decision you have to make. Too much to consider. A lot of ppl buy it back from the insurance company and either take the time and effort (including gobs of $) to repair it OR part it out for other members (you may have to protect it from weather). Some sell it to someone who will part it out (but you'll have to buy it back from the insurance company first). Some just take the loss and buy another. You didn't mention the year/mileage/or its history (which gives an idea how much you can get for various parts if you part it out), so again that is hard for someone else to advise about. I am not to knowledgeable about your ability to haggle so if you can (long shot maybe?), you can price the absolute parts you need to get a larger 'check'... Good luck, whatever you do it still sucks you can't get their insurance company to 'replace' the car. Keep in mind, whatever you accept from the insurance company, chances are (since their the arbitrator of the insured) you'll not be able to litigate the car with the at fault vehicle(s) owners. Good luck, you'll need it!

Re: Help!! Need advice
Man does that suck. I feel for ya as something like that happening is one of my worst nightmares owning one of these. I guess try to look on the bright side, it wasn't a 2021 911 turbo... While the insurance company would pay to fix a 2021 911, it still lost more value due to the damage and repair that would go on the vehicle's history than ANY Crossfire is worth. Luckily, these cars are always around for sale and if you're willing to shop and travel you can find them in great condition with less than 60K miles for less than $12K which is still an absolute steal in my opinion for what ya get... One of the coolest cars on the road. I like the idea of seeing if the insurance company will replace it with a similar make/year/mileage and let them have it. Wrecked it should be worth more than this as your damage isn't anywhere near as extensive.

Re: Help!! Need advice
Sorry to hear about your unfortunate accident/situation. Like many owners I added my Xfire onto my existing auto policy when first purchased. Several months later I called the Insurance company with an unrelated question; it was during that call I decided to ask what the replacement value was just in case a situation similar to yours occurred. The payout was terrible. I did research to see how the figure quoted was determined and arrived at the exact same figure as the insurance company! I don't recall just what I did without some research and it really doesn't matter; the point is the insurance companies are not going to pay out the vehicle's value nor replace it. Because of this stark realization I went insurance shopping. For less money than I was paying thru my carrier (USAA with home/autos/etc all bundled which should have made it cheaper) I found several carriers which allow you to set the value (replacement) with the premium based on that figure(a policy with an "agreed-value"). I posted this information on 6/20/20 in another thread: https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...tml#post943308 I hope many of you will consider reviewing your coverage and protect your investment. Each carrier offers different combinations of coverage. I have been with Hagerty since 2017 and very pleased with their services. There are many to choose from, just decide what fits your lifestyle. I have peace of mind knowing the exact amount of money I will be paid if my SRT is 'totaled'.

Re: Help!! Need advice
Thats an easy fix. The problem is getting the head light. Mine was hit on the rear passenger side when i bought it. Not to bad to fix just hard to find parts. I guess it just depends on what the will give you for it. You could buy it back and buy another one then you will have a parts car.
Re: Help!! Need advice
Similar to the crash that totaled my Graphite Roadster in 2015. I had 116,000 on it, the repair estimate was $12,000, they wrote me a check for $10,700 and I bought the SE that is two years newer and had 28,000 miles on it for $9000. I even had money left over to buy the plane ticket and hotel to go get it.
I can't offer advice, too many factors to consider.

Re: Help!! Need advice
Thank you everyone for all of the advice….I have not made any decisions yet…..still trying to wrap my head around it and it makes me tear up every time I try to make a decision…..I am going to look at her Monday with a friend to see what he thinks about it and whether he thinks we can fix her….fingers crossed that he hopes so…..I have the service manuals that were posted on here awhile from an awesome user so at least we have that if we need it. Have tried looking for a new car and my heart just isn’t in it and can’t think of anything that I would like as much…I’m usually a truck kinda person but I love this car from the moment that I saw it
Re: Help!! Need advice
I've repaired other cars with similar damage. It certainly is doable. Here is a possible solution. Buy the parts car below and use it for parts to rebuild your car. It appears all of the parts you need are good on this car. It's the same color so no painting cost would be incurred. You will have parts left over to sell to forum members, or through ebay, to recoup the purchase price of the parts car. Clearly you have costs and time to get the car or have it shipped to you. A U-Haul car trailer rental is around $120/day.

I had a very similar accident with my SRT6, but it did not involve the hood. I made all repairs in my garage. Total cost $3543.77; I bought new a bumper cover and fender from Mopar. A headlight came from ebay. There is a bracket that holds the fender to the frame just to the outside of the headlight. I cut the spot welds to remove it, but used adhesive to install a new one. (also bought new from Mopar). No insurance company involved and thus no salvage title.
I had a clear bra and ceramic coating re-applied to the new parts. That alone was $1200 which could be deducted from the price above .

Re: Help!! Need advice
The issue with having the car totaled bythe insurance company is the new title will be a "salvage" version. And that tells everybody that the car was totaled & rebuilt, if done. It is possible that even some insurance firms won't insure (comprehensive coverage) a car with a salvage title. Liability is about all the coverage possible going forward. Parting the car out, since it is a limited series model with little to no support from factory, may be your best option.
I get to where I'm scared to death to drive my car around town with all the distracted drivers running amok!

Re: Help!! Need advice
Best case scenario may be to try like hell to get them to either cover the repair or replace it with one in comparable condition and mileage. If you have storage space for it, You should try to buy yours back from the insurance company. It will have a prior salvage title but you can either repair it yourself or have an entire parts car for your own use or two part out.
