Is the Cost of Oil Change and Filter really $240!!??
Is the Cost of Oil Change and Filter really $240!!??
Hey everyone,
I've had my crossfire for over a year and this is the first time that I have had to pay for an oil change. My dealer is telling me for the oil change and filter replacement it's going to be around $240! Uh...could someone tell me why it costs this much? Or is my dealer trying to pull a fast one on me?

Re: Is the Cost of Oil Change and Filter really $240!!??
My dealer told me $120. Mobil 1 is around $4.50 a quart (although a case is around $25 for 6) - (around 9 needed) and whatever the filter costs.
It is a rip-off but then again, I've only paid for one oil change in the last twenty years...

Your getting ripped off big time!!!
Average price is $85.00 - $95.00. Ask your service guy to break down the work order before you authorize the work and see what you're being overcharged for. If he insists the price is $240.00 then laugh in his face and run out the door. I hope you didn't buy the car from those con artists.

Good luck and run like hell away from that dealer!

I have just had my first service here in the UK and they are trying to charge me £360. Have any UK guys on the forum had their first service and if so how much did you pay.
They are trying to charge me £15 a liter for mobile 1 oil. 8 liters is £120!!! Or $240 RIP OFF.

I've noticed that they charge a lot for the oil so, I am going to buy the oil myself from a local trade place which is a lot cheaper than mentioned here.
Then when I get the car serviced, I can supply my own oil.

Re: Is the Cost of Oil Change and Filter really $240!!??
If you change the oil filter yourself, which is very easy to do. You can get Wal-Mart to change your oil for $40, and that is with o-40 mobil one oil. Check into it, my Wal-Mart in CORONA, CA on Ontario Street has changed mine twice, and are not strangers to the car!

Hi beautycake...I am in the Findlay area...what dealer from Toledo did you buy the Crossfire because if you say Vin Devers I am going to die...haha. Bought mine here in Findlay at Treadways and I can check and see what their oil change price is...I haven't had one yet since i just got my car but with my other cars they have been pretty reasonable.

the last time I had the oil changed I was charged only $16.95 using the service coupon sent to me. Prior to that I paid just $24.95 again with coupon and $36.99 without. So seeing service charges noted on this site in upwards of $80 and up astounds me!

Re: Is the Cost of Oil Change and Filter really $240!!??
The cost for 8 quarts of Mobil 1 Synthetic 0W-40 and the FRAM filter for the Crossfire is about $48, plus tax at my local auto parts store. I do the oil change myself on the single wrench interval.
When I purchased my Crossfire, I also purchased a coupon book of 12 oil changes from my dealer. The price I paid was $50 per change X 12 changes which was aprox $600 for the oil changes (the book discounted to about $540 or $45 for each change). The price of the book had to be verified by the service manager as both sales and the service manager were aware that the Mobil 1 was a more expensive oil than the typical oil used in most Chrysler cars.
My word of ADVICE would be that you remind the service tech that the car requires Mobil 1 0W-40 oil BEFORE the oil change.
I plan on making a nice sign on printer paper and taping to my dashboard when I go in for my first double wrench service (which should be in a month or so).
It is not feasible for any dealer to do the 8 quart oil change for less than $40 or so as the oil is rather expensive. I would be very cautious with those low ball prices... If they used the correct oil, you got a deal... if they did not use the correct oil... well... that's not good.
