Default Fuel Economy?

Hey out there!

I'm a former Corvette owner who's considering a new toy. I am really attracted to the Xfires and was wondering what kind of fuel mileage one can expect. The price is absolutely a steal and from the posts I've read here, everybody seems pretty satisfied with their ride.

Whatcha think?

I get about 22-23 mpg with about 50% city driving and 25-28 mpg with about 90% highway driving.

Depends on you drive. I have little patience for the slow people on the road (speed and apparent mental capacity). I also enjoy the acceleration around turns and from stops... So, I only get around 20 mpg with about 50/50 highway/city

Thanks for the responses. That's pretty fair mileage. I know what you mean about how deep you keep your foot, my 'Vette would get about 25-27 if I played nice. Otherwise 19-20 was the rule. I live out in the middle of nowhere and there are no curves within 300 miles and no real traffic to play in. I also understand the "cop magnet" phenomenon, what a load!

BTW: What octane is required?

If you need to worry about the price of fuel, buy a cheaper and more economical car!

We are paying nearly £4.00 per UK gallon.

Our only consolation is the fact that you drive on the wrong side of the road.

By the way, I just did 255 miles on half a tank and most of that motorway driving around 80 mph.

The Mercedes V6 is a lazy engine, but it is f***** good.

After 8800 miles I have been averaging 26.5 MPG. I have kept a mileage log with details.
The 26.5 is total miles / total fuel.

My typical drive is 80 highway and 20 city.

The best mileage was on a long trip in which I got 30 MPG at about 64 MPH all highway with no air conditioner on.

The worst I got was about 21 MPG pretty much all city with air conditioner on. This was the lowest MPG ever but was only done once. Since it was very low, I suspect I somehow did not totally fill up the tank on the previous fill up.

I have been using 93 Octane Sunoco or Amoco for the most part.

Texas in July...AC is always on! I have been averaging 23/24 Mpg. 50/50 highway and city. I drive about 45-55 miles a day to work, depending on my route. Of course I also tend to shift my auto in city traffic. 5300 miles, and no problems since day one.

I'm right in the range of what's written in the manual: 10l/100km (~23.5 mpg US) after 10'000 km (6250 miles). That's for mix of city, country road and highway. The best result I had was 9.1l/100km (25.8mpg). But even going to german Autobahn and driving high-speed 240 km/h (150 mph) I don't get higher than 11.5l/100km (~20.5 mpg). So I might say I'm quite contented.

Thanks for the responses. All except a few snide remarks from across the pond have been helpful. I guess if you want to drive on the wrong side of the road, you have to pay the price.

IN stop and go traffic going to work to New York, I'm getting about 15 mpg. Terrible. I hate this drive, bumper to bumper for 80 miles.

Hummm... sounds like you could REALLY benefit from a PRIUS or some other type of dual fuel electro-gas/diesel vehicle and keep the Crossfire for weekends.

^^^Yeah, the Xfire is not supposed to be my commuter car. I have the Xfire and the Porsche as toys and my 1989 Sterling for commuting, but the Sterling after 13 years of faithful service without once failing me is starting to overheat. I'm so sad.

I get about 26 mph great car I love it. Too bad I can only drive it 6 months out of a year or 7 months if lucky. I will not drive it in the snow.

Thumbs up Re: Fuel Economy?

I just got back from a recent trip to Chicago and got 28.5 going there and 29.5 coming home. My speed was usually on cruise control (70-75 mph), but one time going and one time coming from I hit the Southside of 129 mph, shhh, don't tell anyone! In my defense though, I did use the cruise in the construction zones too and I always do!, its all about balance and smarts IMO! The car is very consistent in this area and FWIW, the mixed driving mileage varies from 20-23 mpg, so the window sticker is a bit off in that department (17 city and 25 freeway) I will say this again, the Crossfire is a great performer, all around at that!

21-22 for me. 80% city driving. But I'm a bit of a lead foot. The best I ever did was 28 mpg on a road trip.
