Default Cup Holder Solution

After reading several posts where members have ripped out their jack-in-the-box cup holders, I felt sufficiently confident that I could do it (my husband wanted no part of this operation, so I was on my own). That moment for which I was mentally gearing up arrived yesterday when I pulled into the garage upon returning home from work. YOU know the feeling... just couldn't stand it anymore. Soooo... trying to protect my manicure, I gritted my teeth and wiggled it back and forth until I felt it lodged loose. Yes...I did it! Took the spring out and put the dumb thing back in it's little pocket, but didn't like the way it looked, so I tossed it into the garage closet and got back in the car. Started rummaging around in the glove box for something that I could put in the black hole, and came up with a flashlight that I had just bought from QVC (the cable shopping channel). It was almost as if it was meant to be. This flashlight fits over the hole perfectly, and looks as if it was designed to be part of the console. Drove it around the block to see if it would interfere with shifting or if it would slide around... nope, perfect....it doesn't budge; almost as if it was made for the car.

I took a few pics, and made a little web page so you could see what it looks like. The first photo is just a pic of the flashlight from iQVC's website, and the other three are of the flashlight sitting atop the cup holder.

To order the flashlight (called The Illuminator), go to iQVC dot com, and order item Number V20580. It's a pretty cool gadget. A battery-free, NON-rechargeable flashlight. Price is about $20 +s/h/tax.

NOW my little Crossfire is PERFECT. Just thought I'd share. Regards...Karen.

That is one beautiful flashlight!! And it matches the interior excellently. Congrats to you on a job well done, and the website is great!

So are you sure this flashlight isn't going to go flying around the first hard corner?

I'd have liked to seen a shot of the empty hole, too.

That space could fit a remote for a stereo as well.

Nice flash light but I've never had my cup holder pop up so i'm still wondering why!

But you could order a dash kit without the cup holder cut out and cover it!

the crossfire is the first car I have had that actually has a cup holder, I'm kinda missing the cool crotch syndrome.

Nice work. When I performed this surgery I was a bit steamed so I may have inadvertently used a bit more force than was required. I had to spend some time finding all the little thingies that flew about the cockpit as a result of the extraction. Cool flashlight, but where would I keep my sun glasses and cell phone? They look like they belong as well.

Thumbs up Re: Cup Holder Solution

Karen,

Nice job. Looks like it came with the car. One question though...does it interfere with the ability to shift the car. I have the 6 speed and I'm worried that my elbow would hit the flashlight.

Thanks Elwood. I have no problems with the flashlight interfering with shifting at all. I actually rest my elbow on it most of the time, and it's very comfortable. I was pretty thrilled with this "find"... plenty of other things I could have placed on/in the hole, but nothing that would look this good... almost as if it was born there.

Thanks for the quick response. I am going to order the flashlight just to have in the glove box. (Good safety item to have on hand when needed). I was thinking about installing a GPS into the slot...but I think it would be in the way too much. Thanks again for your suggestion and happy driving...

Elwood
