Bumper cover and fog light attachment
Bumper cover and fog light attachment
Hey everyone, I am new to this forum and I have a 2004 Crossfire coupe. I need to replace the front bumper cover and one of the fog lights. I ordered a new bumper from MoparParts and I have an issue with attaching the new fog light to the new bumper. The old bumper has 3 bump outs as part pf the bumper and the fog light is screwed to these 3 bump outs. The new bumper does not have the bump outs so if I put it on I can't install the fog lights. Any one have any ideas?? I ordered the new bumper based on the VIN number??? I have attached photos.
Re: Bumper cover and fog light attachment
Purchased the bumper from Mopar parts overstock and they advertise the parts are authentic OEM parts. In talking with the parts manager they indicated that there is a part called an inner panel that holds the fog light and is then glued to the bumper cover.
Re: Bumper cover and fog light attachment
Many of the plastic parts are made up from more than one part. The reason being that it would be impossible to make it in one piece, or the materials used are not suitable to hold bolts etc. The parts are bonded together, selling parts that are not useable unless bonded to another part is wrong, is the other part screwed to the bumper instead of being bonded?
Re: Bumper cover and fog light attachment
onehundred80 The bumper that is on the car has 3 mounting tabs facing the back of the car. The fog light brackets are screwed to these mounting tabs. they appear to be part pf the bumper but I can't tell for sure. I am going to return the new bumper and search around locally in the Denver area to see if I can get the correct bumper. Janme1549 said he purchased one several years ago that had the mounting tabs as part of the bumper.
Re: Bumper cover and fog light attachment
STOP THE BUS! Sorry I am so wrong. I went and looked at my old bumper and it is what you have. It has been a while since I changed it over. Your old bumper should have some kind of mounting you can transfer over. I'm sorry again for the confusion!
Re: Bumper cover and fog light attachment
I suspect they are the number 3 item in the parts diagram.
Re: Bumper cover and fog light attachment
james1549 So if that bumper was on your car and you had fog lights. that means that there must be something behind the bumper cover that holds the fog lights. I wonder if it is attached to the actual metal bumper that runs across the front of the car. Guess I will need to get the front wheels off and remove the upper front fender liner so I can see what is going on. From the pic that I sent it does look like what ever the fog light is screwed to is attached to something other that the bumper cover. Time will tell.
Re: Bumper cover and fog light attachment
OK here is the scoop. The fog light is attached to what is called the Inner Panel (number 3 on the post above from James). I had to get the bumper cover off to actually find the part. I can use the new bumper cover that I have. Thanks to everyone that helped me. This is a great forum. Glad i found it.

The older you get the less they listen or possibly we do not hear their replies due to our deafness.
When I was young I thought I knew everything worth knowing, now I keep my mouth shut and act stupid, it seems to work well for some reason.
