Tailpipes Blackening?
Tailpipes Blackening?
I was wondering if anyone else was having this problem? It seems to be carbon building up. I can easily clean it off with some aluminum cleaner, but it seems to come back as soon as I take it off. Is this a sign that the car is running rich and I need to get it in and have it looked at?
Thanks

Re: Tailpipes Blackening?
Depends how much black your talking about. I clean mine off every time I wash the car and it comes right off. If you have to scrub, you be running a bit rich, but I would lean more to it being pretty normal. It's just that with the open shape of the tail pipes, we are more likely to see the soot easier.
Re: Tailpipes Blackening?
I wipe mine every time I was it and like Bob G says it comes right off with a rag. Most of us on out other cars never say the inside of the pipes because they were just the normal diameter, and nobody ever cleaned the inside. On this car the big square opening makes the dirt very obvious. If you leave it on it will never come off like on some cars like old corvettes and old caddy's that had the exhaust come thru either the bumper or the body.

Almost sounds like you need a rag for the pipes, like people need toilet paper!!
That's ok, I got it.
Re: Tailpipes Blackening?
I have found that using Liquid Lustre on the square opening after every wash helps a great deal. After 2 or 3 applications, all I have to do is lightly rub off the black debris/soot. It does not stick. Liquid Lustre is a non-abrasive Carnauba Formula Automotive wax. It is also Clear Coat safe. Excellent for the finish.
