What IS this part?
What IS this part?
I got this part attached to the single key I got when buying my 06 base coupe. Don't know what it is or is supposed to be for. The silver disk in the base is a small battery.
The "blade" of the key works but is kinda bent at the end; the plastic transmitter is pretty beat up. I will follow already posted info about reprogramming, now that I've put batteries in it, but would like to have a backup in better condition. Is a Chrysler laser-cut key going to cost me $200-300, or is there a more price-conscious alternative? I'd appreciate any wisdom from those who've "been there"--THANKS!

That's a Dallas chip. Nothing to do with the car unless you have something aftermarket.

Thanks for the info, Travish--sheesh!! Who knew? Learning about this vehicle is kind of like the vagaries of systematic theology--all very deep and mysterious! To my knowledge there isn't anything aftermarket on my XFire; I'll remove it from the fob. Lol, onehundred80--let's hope I don't need to use that option anytime soon. I'm going to follow posted instructions on reprogramming key transmitters with my beat-up one but also get a new one at Needswings; thanks, Pizza guy!
