Any information of shipping a Crossfire from US to Germany
Hello folks!
My dad is currently living in Germany, he has dual citizenship and fell in love with my Chrysler Crossfire on his last visit to the US and would now love to purchase 1 in the US and ship it to Germany (I bet it would be fun on the Autobahn). Anyways, does anyone have any experience with this?
How much would it be? I heard there's a way to avoid import tariffs by registering the car for 12 months in the US then shipping to Germany?
Any insight on details would be appreciated, also in regards to technical modifications on the vehicle in regards to Germany laws!
Thanks for your help --- Nick

I only know that if you do ship one from the USA to Germany it will have to get there on a BIG boat . .
I suspect it would make economic sense to just find a nice one in Germany and buy it there . . .

I am sure there are some shipping people, Matt comes to mind, that do container shipping that could help you out. Another avenue is a car dealer in say Chicago, NY, that ship and deal in over sea purchasing could answer your questions.

Thing is, I'm not sure if it's really cheaper in Germany to be honest. I mean, my dad checked and even though Chrysler is not the most popular brand overseas the Crossfire prices are surprisingly high there and considering the favorable Euro to Dollar exchange rate he might get a better deal buying in the US, then having it "transported" to Germany even with all the added fees!
Btw, not sure if you have ever been to Germany, but their cars are not right hand drive and they also drive on the same side of the road as us!

Of course I know they made them in Osnabruck, I lived about 30 minutes from the manufacturing plant!

It's his first day here so he can make a few slip ups. Not too many mind unless he actually is Mad Max with a lethal weapon, a brave heart and a death wish.

Let us know what you find out. I have fantasized for a while about shipping the Crossie over and then spending 1-2 months driving around Europe. Yes, shipping is expensive, but the last time (2008) I rented a car for two weeks and drove 1500 kms it cost me over $700, excluding benzine.
