[QUOTE=BibaResto;769216]onehundred80, thank you. Once again you've 'come to the rescue'. pdf is filed away
I just did this mod on my 2004 with 36,000 miles on it. Locked up in driveway. Followed the .pdf, took about 1-1/2 hours. Worked as advertised.
Here's my question...if removing that spring and pin behind the door fixes it...which it does...why the hell do they have the damn soring and pin there to begin with? What does it do? All the other functions work without it, so why did they even put it in the assembly? Stupid...

Typical over engineering by Mercedes Benz, a backup the main locking function of the ignition. Just like wearing a belt and suspenders....

Zracer is right, and there is more to the ignition switch than just starting the car. There is a locking mechanism that prevents the gear shift lever from moving, I don't know how you would by-pass that and also an anti-theft device.
Re: Ignition Key Will not turn?? 2005 Coupe
I' ve came up with a fix if your key is already locked.
I couldn't remove the tumbler lock, which prevented me from pushing the pin that allows removing of the ignition switch.
I've bent the clamp with pliers, to get it off, then I've cut the black tube with 12V mini angle grinder, so that I could move the ignition switch a bit without pushing in the pin. Not removing the tumbler lock also made it impossible to take it out completely, but the point was to move it to the point where the tab that covers the pin is uncovered.
Finally i dived under the wheel and hit it with a screwdriver and a hammer. It worked and i didn't have to tear it down completely.
