Emission failed
Emission failed
So I have to register my car in WA since i bought in cali, I failed emission yesterday due to p0410. I followed the fix on the forum by soldering which worked, however the test failed today due to not ready . The guy said that the computer\memory had to be rebooted after the fix. Any of you guys can help with this ?
Re: Emission failed
I guess the guy at Chrysler never heard of an Ultragauge. (Or he just wanted to get you off the phone.)
I can unplug my EGR valve which will set a P0401 in several miles. Then plug it back in and use the Ultragauge to turn the light off and reset the P0401.
I do it when I go to the Dragon or drive the curves on Blood mountain. (I have a switch on the console to unplug the EGR valve.)
Go order an Ultragauge for $80, you will not only have fun learning about the car, but you will also have a powerful diagnostic tool and you will have 53 gauges (most of which you don't have now) that tell you all sorts of stuff the PTCM is watching. You can read the codes (in fact, they pop up automatically) and reset them and the light when you get the problem fixed. Or when you THINK it is fixed, you can reset the code and turn the light off, if the problem is still there, it will come back.

Re: Emission failed
I thought an UltraGauge would be good enough for checking if you had enough oil.
Re: Emission failed
Anyway, the guy remarked, "The car's been a bit quicker on the uptake, hasn't it?" I told him I THOUGHT it did, but thought I'd imagined it. He then explained what the valve did and why it was there.
THere is no more power, because, when you get on the accelerator hard, the PTCM closes the valve anyway. But there is a delay before it closes.
THe valve being open allows exhaust into the intake, while this reduces NOx, but it also reduces performance.
Go tear around where you have curves, etc. that mean you are on and then off the pedal a lot.
Disconnect the valve.
Try it again and see what you notice.
I find turning the EGR off has as much effect on response as a throttle reset.
Just try it yourself.
Re: Emission failed
I don't know. I did ask the emissions guy (because I had to get the EGR changed so it would pass emissions) and all he said was, "If the light isn't on, I can run your check". But I'm not sure I made the point about how I had turned the light off with the Ultragauge.
Of course, I got delayed a week before I went, by that time, the car had been thru enough cycles that it would have been cleared anyway. SO I just don't know.
