Crossfire 2.0 Survey
Re: Crossfire 2.0 Survey
And maybe toss in a platform with plenty of upgrade options... just a thought. I don't think "who" the power plant comes from would be a major issue.. we're all half breeds already.. LOL.
Re: Crossfire 2.0 Survey
I fell for the Crossfire because of the styling. Unique and timeless. But the power plant and platform made it an easy sell.
That said, to heck with brand names. The whole auto industry is incestous already. Splice the best genes together for the best fiinal package.
Re: Crossfire 2.0 Survey
I don't know about that. I had an '86 1/2 Cherokee XJ made by AMC. Talk about an orphan child! It was a miss-mass of parts from the Big 3.
Re: Crossfire 2.0 Survey
Every thing built in Detroit, at that time, came from the same set of suppliers.

Re: Crossfire 2.0 Survey
He was implying that AMC Jeeps were a miss-mass of parts made for other cars by all of the Big 3. I almost bought a CJ7 back in the 80's until I learned that about them.
Back OT, I too fell in love with the Crossfire because oof the styling. It was the MB under the hood that closed the deal.

But let us not divert the thread. This is too exciting.
Benz cars are the best engineered in the world made with the cheapest parts. However, if built on a Benz platform, I would be elated. But a Hyundai platform would also do. Even perhaps V/8 powered this time. Ford powered might be interesting. Think Shelby Cobra here guys.

Re: Crossfire 2.0 Survey
Very interesting....
Not to confuse everybody, but when I re-posted the survey I switched the order of the images to see whether one design was truly favored over the others. Theme B, the favorite in the first round became Theme C. That means the same design is emerging as the favorite.
I've been in surveys before where they just pick the one in the middle. This time there is a clear winner. It looks like the Crossfire community has a very clear view of what a Crossfire should look like.
So here's a question...If it's NOT a Crossfire, but an all new car in its own right, would you pick the same design again?

That wonderfully unique combination of features that first drew us to the design we know as the Crossfire could have been called almost anything - the name's good but it's the shape that does it, so any Crossfire-inspired design has to remain faithful in key areas, otherwise it's just another cool car (albeit a very cool one!) - but without those features, the connection, and therefore the whole point of the exercise, would be lost. That's why C (in the second survey) really hits the spot - thank you!
Re: Crossfire 2.0 Survey
AND digital climate control
AND a tilt steering wheel
AND an auto-dim rear view mirror
AND turn indicators on the outside mirrors
AND HID headlights

Re: Crossfire 2.0 Survey
Those are nice things but, along with a cup holder, why incllude them on a "sports" car?
Re: Crossfire 2.0 Survey
Great feedback guys!!!
I'm up to 198 responses. The results are about the same...Side and rear of Theme B, Front is split between B and C. But I've been getting a lot of comments from individuals who like the side glass shape of C and the fender strakes of B. At this point I can see 2 designs emerging, one that stays more literal to the original Crossfire and another that pushes it out a bit.
At this point I have enough responses so I'll need to close the survey. But I plan to come back soon with updates and another survey and more sketches.
As far as my plans go, at this point this is going to be a personal conceptual project, but it could eventually end up as a one-off car for myself. This will essentially be the same as building a Cobra kit, but with a custom-designed body and interior. There is no official connection to Chrysler or Ford, or any plans to produce it.
Also, as I said before I want this car to be Crossfire inspired, but not branded as a Chrysler or a Crossfire. That means I'll need to come up with a new name for the car...Any ideas?
Since the survey response was so strong, I just need to get those disclaimers out of the way before I get into any entaglements with my current or former employers...Thanks for understanding!
I'll be back with some updates to the design soon!

Re: Crossfire 2.0 Survey
digital climate control ( cause I hate having to fool with those ***** )
tilt steering wheel ( not everyone likes the wheel at the same angle )
auto-dim rear view mirror ( for my feeble old eyes )
turn indicators on the outside mirrors ( safety reasons )
HID headlights ( again, for my feeble old eyes )
Re: Crossfire 2.0 Survey
Threw in my .02. Everything has aged well on this car except for the "Chrysler family" front end (of course, the coolest of all that year). For mine being '05's, they still look unique and still garner comments. I think the SRT's are headed towards classic/milestone status (ala the Toyota 2000GT) and just hope Sergio doesn't throw an ill-advised wrench into our exclusive 6 territory (for all the reading I've done, he seems to have any new SRT-6 sit on the back burner for awhile).
Re: Crossfire 2.0 Survey
heated seats that work for more than 6 months and are a bit softer than an ironing board ( for my skinny behind on long trips )

keep the splined rooftop and auto spoiler ( it looks cool )
redesign the fuel tank a few inches back so the seats can recline more
move the ashtray bin to the center. Closer to the cigarette lighter. The wider bin can accommodate your cell phone ( why such a wide bin for a button anyway? )
Re: Crossfire 2.0 Survey
Gentleman please, This is supposed to be a possible one off for Eric Stoddard's personl use. Let him equip it the way he likes. My cup holder comment was presented as a joke.
Except I am damm serious. If a car can pull almost a "G' in turns, why would you have a cup of anything on the console?

Re: Crossfire 2.0 Survey
Name suggestions:
CrossBow ("CB-8")
Stoddard CrossBow ( insignia "SCB-8")
CrossMorph (insignia "CM-8")
EriCross ("EC-8")
My thought is, that this "new" Crossfire, should let the lines and design of the car, denote its' heritage, and not a reference to the Chrysler designation of "SRT". It should stand on its own. Just sayin.......
