Default I need new tires, any recommendations?

Hey Forum,

Okay I'm in need of 4 new tires because my SPT's are S%*T. They only lasted about 1.5 years, not great, but it is what it is. I want more grip without compromising the comfort. My dealer quoted me $870 for the same tires I already have on...**** that! On the other hand, this sets me up with a 1k min. budget; should include M&B, and full alignment. So what kind of brand tire would you recommend me that is the best bang for the buck?

Thanks again!

I like the Hankook Ventus VT12's - good price, good grip and decent wear.

About $736 with shipping from TireRack, should leave enough budget for the M&B

A dealer should be your last resort for everything having to do with your Crossfire.

I doubt if anyone other than a Chrysler dealership or a MB dealership can properly align an XF.........

Oh true, but their offer was fair. I may just have my tires shipped out to the dealer because the kumhos are garbage.

I saw from your other post about the Hankooks not being in stock. Honestly, these tires did not do well for my '6 coupe (stock size). The grip was awful when hitting curves hard as the traction control constantly kicked in.

As far as alignments on our cars, there are plenty of tire shops that can do it. Call around. Also check for independent MB mechanics in your area. They should be able to do it.

The Hankooks are very popular among Crossfire owners, however I chose to go with Goodyear Eagle F1, Asymmetric. Not to be confused with the Eagle F1 "All Season". Good tread wear (going into my fifth season), quiet, stick to the road in wet/dry conditions and look great. I love 'em and will purchase them again.

You might check the official tire revue thread, lots of good info there.

I'm fitting my car with Toyo Proxes 4 Plus tires when my current ones wear out. I've read a lot of good things about them, and seem to be cheaper than the competition. Hard to find online though, you've gotta find a shop.

I've got General G-Max on mine, put them on last summer. Quiet, smooth, haven't really tested them in the rain, since i don't go out in the rain I think Tire Rack if you search, has a good list of reviewed tires, and their performance/price

2004 SSB 6spd, Annnnnd....thought spring was here...mmmm nada. -21c and snow today

I put the toyo proxies 4 plus on my srt as I needed a tire that would work in the cold.
So far I like them. They are very predictable. They don't hook great from a dead stop bet neither did the Bridgestone pole position re50's
The car ran 11.86 with slicks so I don't expect any street tire to be magic.

I agree with the above. Mine came with the Hankooks (nearly new then), and they drive like snot on a glass doorknob.

Maybe they are OK on a warm weather only car, and a good deal for the money, but on my daily driven in all non-snow weather, I am not impressed. They are just about worn out with less than 20,000 miles. They will be replaced with Michelin Pilots soon.

I have never been sorry to spend the money on good Micheliins, car or truck. I cannot say that about various "cheaper" tires I have tried. The different sets of street compound (not super sticky high wear type) Michelin Pilots on the two daily driven / commuter sportscars I had before the Crossfire all lasted at least 40,000 miles and gripped well in all weather.

To me it makes sense to spend 25% more and get tires that last twice as long (and drive better).

Awful tires. I had them on my old Scion tC and even on the warmest summer days they still wouldn't grip worth a crap. Waste of money in my opinion.

I just purchased a set of Kumho Ecsta 4X all season. They are a big ride improvement over my worn Pirelli Z's. I don't drive hard or often so I think they will work for me. Tire Rack gave them a decent review. I will be taking them on their first trip this weekend. The price was good with alignment, mounting, balancing and taxes of around $915.00 at a local shop.
