Gears!
Gears!
What the crossfires, especially the autos, REALLY need is some steeper gears. I believe the stocks are 3.07. Somthing around 3.55 or 3.73 would be perfect.. Since They run high 14 second 1/4 miles, and the 215 hp gets it up to over 150 mph... its definately highway geared.
Anyone think rear end gears will become avaliable any time soon? I'm willing to bet they'd take off a good .3 to .4 seconds from the 1/4 mile ET

I did see a website where some company was offering rear-end swaps for Mercedes.
Of course I can't find it again!!! I thought I had put it in my favorites! Guess not!
Anyway, they didn't have one listed specifically for the SLK320, but they did have a general price range of several thousand dollars!
(Because the gears in MB diffs are hand fitted matched gear sets)
I'll keep looking to see if I can re-find that site...

Crossfire comes with 3.25:1 Axle Ratio, except the SRT-6, which is 3.07:1.
http://www.chrysler.com
"A numerically lower axle ratio results in lower engine rpm and better fuel economy. A numerically higher ratio improves acceleration, climbing grades, carrying loads or pulling a trailer."
2003 SLK320 Roadster (essentially our car) 3.27:1.
2003 SLK32AMG Roadster (essentially SRT-6) 3.07:1.
2005 CLK320 Coupe (same 3.2L engine) comes with 3.27:1.
2005 CLK320 Cabriolet (same 3.2L engine, same "TouchShift" 5 speed auto) comes with 3.45:1 rear.
2005 SLK350 Roadster will supposedly have 3.27:1.
