Mice have entered the garage and found the bird seed, bummer. The bait from the trap was lifted overnight so I have to adjust it to a hair trigger. But the last thing I caught with a trap with a hair trigger was my finger. I could put the cat in the garage but she would freeze her a$$ off.

I have to remind myself that I am smarter than they are. My fault for putting the seed in there in the first place, so maybe I'm not so smart after all.

This is an ongoing problem, they have dragged away one trap and I cannot find it, tripped the traps at least 8 times and all I have caught is one mouse. Maybe there is a rat out there, rats eat mice so ....

Now we are getting down to poison, I hate to use it but they are smarter than I am so this is the final solution for them.

Score at the moment, Dave 1, mice 8.

How long does it take in the spring for the smell of all the decaying mice to go away ?
Do you wait till they are just skeletons and mount all the little skulls in a trophy case ?

Opinions vary.. mine seem totally happy to just get air in them..

Mice do not smell much thankfully and insects eat them, I guess the insects die as well.

The mice (?) have not eaten my bait but they set off another trap and ate the peanut butter again.

Score, Dave 1 mice 9.
This is becoming a blow out with no mercy rule to save my feelings.

I thought I had the advantage of a home game, I guess not as the mice are at home as well.

One trap is missing in action, dragged away by something. I'll tie them down from now on. Maybe there's a rat that I'm up against as well.

180, you might just have to resort to the scorched earth plan! When we got field mice in our garage and home, I just set those newer (tray) type snap traps. They have a yellow plastic tray that looks like a piece of cheese that I put a dab of PB right near where the trip pin sets into the fake cheese tray. Works every time, they come up from three sides (I put it where they pretty much have to come up to it from the front or sides) and they put their paw on the tray, and we remove the carcase and reset it. Haven't had one smarter than us yet.

That is a good idea, I'll do that. Maybe my mice get thrown in the air by the spring, they could just be used to the thrill of flying. What ever they come back for the PB though.

I have one of those fake cheese traps, one just disappeared and I have two new ones and the poison. They have not touched the poison.

The trap was set off again last night, score to date Dave 6 Mice 10.

I had a small rat under my deck the other year, so I fed him from the unset rat trap for three days, then I set it, caught the confident little sucker first try.

I had mice in the house last summer, I caught a couple, my cat got one and then they decided the area was not safe so they went back to the roof.

I'm wondering if I am dealing with a rat or even a chipmunk. No place for a squirrel to get in. Dragging off the trap twice takes some strength. We fed the chipmunks in the summer, so my wife will be upset if I nail one now.

You may have something there. I have only once to had one of the snap traps carried off like you describe. The design is to break the neck/spine of the little buggers. If the angle is off too much it catches them somewhere else resulting in a messy catch but still localized. Like I said they are designed to kill immediately. I can remember only once it was carried into the depths of the home we rented at the time. That was my fault for putting it where the mouse scaled over the trap (found the path after this incident) and corrected placement. Oh, here they travel in a minimum of pairs. If you do not catch either momma or poppa, then you'll have little ones to deal with and that skewers the numbers some. So, you may have something other than mice, or maybe a combination?

I tried this set up for the traps, nothing for a week then two mice in two days, both mice were caught coming from the side.
They have a buffet type of set up, three traps in a row, side by side, with access from sides or the front only.

Just checked the XF out in the shed. So far, no mice. I have the "shake away" around the car, two traps, (not sprung yet), and mothballs scattered around the area, and under the hood. Oh and one trap on the passenger floor, and steel wool stuffed in the exh pipes.

Cool! Glad to be of a little help here with your rodent problem! Just keep setting them where they come from the three sides and you'll keep catchiing them. Now, about that one with the machine gun, I suggest calling the marines!

Another two mice, this is turning into a massacre, five mice to date. The garage is so full of stuff for the winter I cannot find their home base and take them on there. I just hope they are not in the crossfire, I suspect the Mustang.

Now you guys have me worrying about mice... where would they be if they are making a home somewhere? My tailpipes are plugged but I remember reading about the air box?

I picked up my SRT in Florida and there was a nest under the black box by the battery. The OEM air box intakes had seeds stored in them, luckily it was not the car as the car had a CAI fitted.

Another car I had that was not used very often, hada chipmunk make a lovely nest of leaves behind a headlight, not needing electricity he chewed through the wires. I had spotted him jumping up the wheel well but I did not suspect what he was doing. I guess he was living there.

Chipmunks are charming creatures in the wild but they can be very destructive, just like the red squirrel that lives under my hot tub, I think he is the cause of the slow leak in it. A nice warm home in the winter for him but a lousy tenant for me. If there is no seed outside for the birds he sits and stares into the house wondering why I am slacking in putting food out for him. He's the winner and I lose.

Glad you have found the soultion to clearing them little buggers away! You have to stay on it, as they reproduce consistantly. Once you have gotten a break in the catching, you'll find them in pairs. Once momma n poppa have the lil ones, your going to have the potential for odd number catches. When you catch momma right after birth, the lil ones will die off and poppa will be caught soon. BUT U HAVE TO KEEP SETTING/CHECKING TRAPS!
