Seems to me that if you spent that much time at the race track you would know that that's the only place for racing like that. I'm with Pelked1, when you take it out on the street, it's road rage. You have no control over outside conditions, I don't care how careful you are! We are a racing family and never condone street racing. Some day I'll post some pics.

The street racing scene is getting pretty big up here in FFFFFFlint town Rather cool to see... haven't got to jump into any yet... but I've checked out a few meet spots... nice cars and nice attitudes flying all over! But Redline down on 11 mile is more safe ... and lots of nice cars to check out late night on the weekends! ... Street Racing may harm people... but IMO its better then selling drugs or rubbin beer stores!

LOL np... Detroit runs a few strong street racing teams... Flint a decent one... but with good people in it... Pontiac area has this thing called Speedz... I wanta punch those people... and those are the only main ones in Michigan I know of! ... lots of it goes down around 1 - 3 am on Fridays.. lots of meets just hanging out also... like Redline at around 10 - 12... just hanging out to talk about cars and what not... the street racing scene in Michigan is nothing like Cali or the southern states... most of our stuff is all mullet wearing cars... nothing tuners unless you head to Redline!

I can appreciate your concerns, for myself and others around me. Have you ever raced a car competiitely? Now if you have you would know that you CAN NOT loose your composure. I have been trained on controling my emotions. I agree it is very dangerous to drive with emotionally. I function quite comfortably in presure situaitions. Once again let me say, I do understand were your coming from.

 

saskins... I'm still curious about your "Cold air intake"..... How are you getting the cold air to your filters?
It sure seems to me that you are really sucking a lot of hot air from the engine bay. I like the way it looks. I'm just not too clear on how drawing hot air in, is going to improve performance.
At least with the stock intake plumbing it's drawing cool air.

 

1) The Flint street races... there are guns... knives... its ghetto... lots of "dealers" in the area that like to show off their bling... this is a main reason why i only cruise through flint... i rarely even stop unless to get a picture...

2) Redline doesnt have guns and knives... its a bunch of snobby rich kids with expensive cars...

3) like the older days in the movies... where all the kids gathered around the abandon tool shed or what not... redline is a big parking lot where the cops actually allow us to park and just talk about our cars..

4) most of the cars in flint are mullet wears... that what we call them.. Cameros Firebirds 90-04 mustangs cavaliers...

5) Tuners = JDM... and even compact cars.... hondas, toyota, mitsu.. that sorta thing

I don't know if you know this or not, but your fan is in constant motion when the engine is running. Now because the fan is blowing air twords the engine. It is going to be a lot harder to get hot air in the front half of the engine compartment. Typically you want to find a dead zone. Meaning a place were there is minimal air turbulance. You want that to be your new home for your new air cone filter. There you just allow you cars compression to draw in the cooler fresh air in the front. The colder the air the more Horsepower you will recieve. All it really does is allow you ECU(computer) to work more efficiantly. The cooler you engines while running, the more that you cars computer will allow those pistons to burn. Please trust me on this one. As soon as I tested my straight pipe dual intakes, that I am finishing today by the way. It blew my mind, how much more aggresive the car responded. I mean it really wanted to go. I thought for sure it would kill my gas. Sorry to say NO it didn't really tip it one way, or another. I have to test it a little more, and document the miles per gallon. I hope this cleared up any questions. Also remember there is no such thing as a dumb question.

 

No owners in a car forum will admit their car is slower than any other, but the stories here made it sound like the Z is a slouch and as stated it is'nt, for whatever reasons these fellows got the jump but the stats speak for themselves, and the Z is every bit a work of art as the X-fire is..but I dont wanna rattle anyone's sense of security..we gotta justify our purchases right? :roll:

 

I will agree with you that the Z is a little quicker than the Crossfire; however, stating that, "the Z is every bit a work of art as the X-fire is" is like comparing Sarnoff's 'The Hustler' to da Vinci's 'Mona Lisa.' The Z just doesn't compare...

From a design standpoint you cant deny the Z has been just as well designed as the Xfire, inside to out, its just that they may have different goals in terms of that style but its equally well thought out, personal tastes aside. It was'nt just thrown together and neither was the Xfire. Both stand out amongst the drivel on the american road ways

 

i actually completely agree with you, i think the z is one of the most beautiful cars on the road. well i guess i lied a little bit, i dont completely agree with you, but more or less, because if it really came down to it i would have to give our car the edge on looks.

 

ok as far as the road rage thing goes, get real. Someone was saying i'll keep from naming names that street racing is road rage. :lol: I have had plenty of pick me up races from a 16 year old in a civic to a 50 yearold father and his 9 year old son in a Viper. And for the gramps saying that these young punks thing. Geez my dad a baby boomer has a crap load of drag racing stories from back in his day. Its a gearhead thing, and if ya dont understand youre not a gearhead. There is no anger when i race, hell most of the time i give off a peace sign or a nod and drive off and the other driver does the same. It's called mutual respect. Just had to say my .02. Sick of all the old foggies saying its our generation whipper snapper thing. Has been going on for decades. Even before my fathers time. A guy i work with in his 60's use to street race in the 50's.And he still is a gearhead.

 

Ok back to topic. Nice kill on the 350z. Shows ya anything can be beat with anything. May have been different from a dig. I'll share a 350z kill story. Well this was before the time of my crossfire when i use to say i have a fast car lol. I had my mach 1. Was at a light when a 350z track 6speed pulls up next to me. I had no intention of going next thing i know is he takes out like a bat out of hell revs up and launches. So I was caught of guard. He had about 2 cars on the hole shot. by the end of second i was already a nose ahead and as i barked 3rd put car legnths on him and i let off. the z is no challege for my old mach 1 Old being 2003. As he caught up he gave me a peace sign i did same. No hatred.

here is a crossfire story. Raced some sort of harley. He had me up to 60 then i caught up and had him by a half a car. I let off he kept going. I was shocked but some harleys run mid to high 14's.

And here is a new story just of the 91 sho i bought for winter. No more tire headaches for the XF. I'll make it short i smoked a brand new scion tc.
As i was laughing i said to the guy (after we were done) Not bad for a Taurus eh? And he said no not bad at all with a smerk. Gotta love the pickme up races. See ya asked for a story i gave ya 3

 

i saw this great indy movie from the 40's of no dialogue, no anything, just a movie about racing in a circle on dirt. bunch of rebels, james dean style. street racing, i love it.

The Z is cool in all, but if I were to get into a Z I would have to go with a 1990 300 Twin Turbo. That car was a work horse. That car spanks the new 350.

 

For me it would have to be the 240Z. I'd like to see a 350 do this....
