Default Check engine light came on!

About a week ago my check engine light came on and i took my car to the Advance auto shop. They told me it was a loose gas cap, so not a big deal happens to all the cars, eventually. However, the light is still on, how long do i have to drive it for so it can come off?

Thanks again!

Mine came on too and it ended up being the gas cap.

I had that happen with another car where I lost the gas cap. After I bought a new gas cap, it took 10 or 12 restarts before the light went out. I would guess the Crossfire takes a similar amount of restarts before the code clears itself.

Mine came on as well. I took to the parts store. After they tell you what the code is, they can then reset the light. What i did is I added some fuel treatment and ran the car for a few miles and the light went away. but my light came on due to fuel running lean, is what they said. Also, you could disconnect your car battery for about thirty minutes and reconnect and should go out as well.

When I go to Advance for them to read the CEL code, (which I don't do anymore, since I have an ULTRAGAUGE) they give me a print out that tells me the code. Did you get that?

What code is the car throwing? P0455 would indicate a loose or missing cap. Most of the other P0454_ and P045_ codes would likely mean trouble in the evaporative control system. I'd rather know the code and research it myself.

I had a P0453 one time (Advance read it for me) and told me it was a loose cap. This was simply wrong, I got home and researched it and found that 0453 indicated an "impossibly high pressure" - essentially, an impossible condition and NO WAY would a loose cap throw that code.

I found the trouble, I had been careless and was always washing the care with the top down (two mitt method, not going to a damn car wash) and had let water trickle down on the connector on the tank and corroded the ground to the sensor. Cleaned it up myself - no more problems.

The Advance guy didn't know what he was talking about. Order an ULTRAGAUGE for $80 and read it yourself!

Read about it here: https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...e-scanner.html

THen come back and tell us what it is and we'll help you.
