Default Aftermarket Speedometer

Hi was curious to see whether or not I can install an "Auto Meter" electronic speedometer onto the dash with a pod. Some say it will not work but I heard from other guys that said it will work. Do we need to tap into the cars speedometer and have it wired or someting?

Have not got a clue, but I would have guess yes. There must be an outputwire from the bcm that gives you speed. this should be able to put in to your new speedometer.

I would think it will probably be quite difficult to do, as the repair manual says :

The other data required is obtained
via the CAN data bus from the Controller Antilock
Brake (CAB) and the Powertrain Control Module
(PCM).
The following are CAN Bus data inputs required
for FSS indicator operation:
² CAB supplied input: 4 wheel speed signals for calculating vehicle speed
² CAB supplied input: 4 wheel speed signals for calculating distance traveled
translation : the dash module has circuitry to decode the pulse rate from the CAB to drive the needle ........
But I am probably overlooking something.

Aftermarket speedos usually use pulsed input to calculate speed. Some use their own pulse generators or only work with certain manufactures outputs, but others are programmable and work with any pulsed output. You should be able to tap into the signal wire from the sensor and use a programmable aftermarket speedo.

Why do you want to put an aftermarket speedo in your crossfire anyway?

I once preferred dice and girls knickers hanging from the mirror.
Know I prefer little altars with crosses and such.

First off, the techs at Meineke know absolutely zip about the electronics in these cars and regardless of what some tech there said, you're not going to grab any speed information off the harness going to the cluster because it is transmitted via CAN. Your aftermarket speedometer will need a pulsed output (VSS) from body control module. I've attached a picture below for your reference to keep you from really messing up the wiring in your car but I do not condone what you're doing and I accept no liability should anything happen as a result of the use this image or the information it contains therein. (You should see that I'm protecting my аss here so what you're going to be digging into has the potential to harm or kill yourself and other if done incorrectly so don't take this warning lightly)

Yeah these techs are retarded. My car wont start now because the Security is disabled or whatever they mean and had to hook a device up to get the Security off.

No one has the interest and knowledge except rcompart and if I were you I would heed his words.
Effing up your car for something useless but in your eyes 'cool', is hardly worth the effort.
