Secondary codes not going away to get the car smog
Secondary codes not going away to get the car smog
Hi, i am having a problem trying to get the secondary codes to go away after clearing the P0410 code so I can smog the car. I replaced the control module and vacuum hoses and the little blue and black air module. I drove the car for three days now for over 350 miles and 3 of the codes will not go away. Any Ideas to clear?
Thanks
Thanks

The P0410 is an indication the pump is not running when commanded to. Is the pump running, say, at cold start up like it's supposed to?
What blue and black module did you replace? What do vacuum hoses have to do with that pump?
(Honestly asking here, because I really thought that this system was simple - it takes air and pumps it into the exhaust at start up to help the converters to heat up and do their job better. I kinda don't think vacuum lines have anything to do with it, but don't know for sure.)

Yes the pump runs at the cold start like it is to. I took the car to a shop and the found some cracks in a couple of vacuum lines and they replaced them as well as the control module board. Ouch $ 600 total. The P0410 code is cleared it is no longer coming up on the scanner. There is however the secondary codes and i have been trying to make them go away so I can smog the car. I have heard there is a special way to get them to clear. To run the car in a particular way. That's what Im looking for. If you may know or have a link to how it would be greatly appreciated
Re: Secondary codes not going away to get the car smog
Ok, one more time: WHAT control module was replaced? The car is FULL of them and I doubt you got a PTCM for $600.
And what do you mean "SECONDARY" code? Do you mean a PENDING code? Is the CEL on? If there is no code on the scanner and the light is not on, there IS no code.

CEL - check engine light - if it isn't on, you don't have a problem, go get the smog check.
The RCM is a common failure item - you can just resolder the connections on it and you are usually ok.
Bet you wish you'd known that $600 ago, huh? We even have a loaner module you can trade tighd1 with for $10.

Re: Secondary codes not going away to get the car smog
No check engine light, but I live in CA and the smog guy said the pending or as I called them the secondary codes or the codes that the main computer on the car stores and needs to clear. I started out with 6 now down to 3 but I cant get the tree to go away. That's where I need help cause in CA it fails the car.
Re: Secondary codes not going away to get the car smog
Even after a code(s) is cleared, the PCM must go through x number of "run cycles" before the secondary codes will clear. I am not sure of the Crossfire since I have not looked into it. But a "run cycle" is when the car is started, and the engine temperature rises a certain amount of degrees of temperature.
It is set up that way so you don't clear the code before entering the testing station just to get it to pass. I will attempt to get some info when I get time.

Other than that, I think James got to the bottom of this - give it time.
Hey, here's a question, how do you KNOW the codes are there? Are you reading them yourself or going back to see him every few days?
Re: Secondary codes not going away to get the car smog
I have a Innova CanOBD@ diagnostic tool it shows the pending codes at the top in little ***** when they flash they are not cleared and not flashing they have cleared. The Chrysler dealer had said there is pattern of running the car to clear them I guess I need to know that if it is true or not and if true what is it
Re: Secondary codes not going away to get the car smog
Pending codes? What codes are pending? Are you sure it just hasn't set readiness yet? Usually on obd2 scan tools or code readers, the top bubbles or ovals are the readiness states for the emissions control system. Ie. Cat, secondary air, evap, etc. If you haven't completed enough drive cycles, your monitors will not have had time to run all tests. One of these to make sure on would be to have between 1/4 tank and 3/4 tank of gas, otherwise the evaporative emissions test won't run.
