Default battery indicator help have trip soon!!!

i have an 06 crossfire coupe 6 speed man. under hard acceleration the battery indicator light would come on and my lights would dim. this happened randomly on the highway too. i took it to the dealer for oil change and 23 point check. they checked my battery and said it was shot. they put in a new one for $139. not 50 feet out of the parking lot under hard acceleration it happened again..i have a 3 hour trip soon please help me resolve this!!! i have a 15 inch subwoofer installed but i dont run it very hard. i called the guys who did my sound system and said with the set up i have i should have zero problems from an old battery much less a new one??? help!!!

It could be the voltage regulator on the back of the alternator that is going bad too.... it is replaceable also. You can have the alternator tested at a local parts shop....

If they checked the battery for charging, I'm guessing it was just a voltage check under load, to make sure there was a minimum of greater than 13 or 14 volts being seen.

I would have them, or a local shop, or yourself, check the Alternator by pulling the fan belt, and spin it by hand for noise, or wobble.

If it's the Voltage Regulator, it's part of the Alternator.

Couldn't hurt to check the Codes via a Data Scanner, but I'd like to think the Dealer already did that...

You could also pull the positive battery cable of while it is
Running an if it dies it would be the alternator

The electronics on these cars love to see sparks ....... not.

I'd go with the alternator/regulator, grounds or cable connection.

Re: Mystery Issue... Generator/Alternator? - 12-07-2011 , 12:12 PM

Update,

This morning the charge/battery indicator lit immediately when the vehicle was started and stayed lit. So I guess it finally failed completely.

Going to pick up a new generator/alternator from O'Reilly Auto Parts in about 10 minutes. Will put it in this afternoon when the engine cools.

Will take pictures while changing it out and start a new thread.
