De-badge.
Re: De-badge.
I still have my roadster badged as she rolled off the line. The SRT just got the badge put back on her rear end. I do have AMG center caps on the wheels. I think they are cool. I'm not sure how someone could be ashamed of owning a Chrysler or a MB. Both are amazing car companies that have done amazing things in their field. There are cars in both line ups that are embarrassing but who cares! I have some things in my past that I would be totally happy with staying in the dark.
One of the things that made me really want this car is the (excuse the pun) cross heritage. The excitement of owning a car that came from the same parents of a McLaren & a Superbird?!?! Once in a lifetime change ..... I had to take it.
I proudly tell any one & everyone who asks about the car all about the ENTIRE history. The engineering of MB, the styling of a man who now works for Kia, made in Germany, marketed in the USA, sung about by a Canadian - they are global......

But if you ask me if I like it, don't be offended when I say 'not a bit'. LOL
I'm going to remove the NeedsWings CAI for a while at least, I like the look of the OEM intake, again, that's just me, anyone else can do what they like.
There are some nice mods being done and I like them, but stickies?
Each to their own I guess.

Good point!
Being a hard core Mopar guy for all of my 38 years, I have to say that this whole topic reminds me of how I felt when Diamler and Chrysler merged. I was absolutely amazed and worried for Chrysler's future. All I could think of is WHAT will become of future design, drivetrains and styling? With Plymouth leaving the line up (not related) and an unclear future for Chrysler/ Dodge, I really felt unnerved as this new "partnership" became real. Change can really suck... I never viewed Mercedes as a bad thing, just not for me and my American muscle backround. Two different worlds..
Fortunately, this "shotgun marriage" (that's how I viewed it) produced a car called the Crossfire. A German built car with Mercedes goodies - all packaged together with Chrysler styling. When I first saw the Crossfire, I thought it was an incredibly sexy and unique car but it lacked the perfmance it allueded to. A year after production that was corrected with an SRT6 option that really caught my attention.
My mother fell in love with the car and bought an SRT6 in 05. She made the mistake of letting me drive it once... OMG! That car was AMAZING. I could not believe that this little car was so very capable! Handling, performance and the mileage wasn't too bad either. I got hooked after that little trip. To make a long story short, I bought that Crossfire from my mother who complained it was too hard to get in and out of, she bought a 300C. I got the family discount (no I am not telling you what i paid for it) and have been a happy owner ever since. It now has 44K miles on it has had NO problems other than an IC pump which is to be expected.
My point is that even though change can suck, it can also be a very good thing. I think most of you will agree with that. Now again Chrysler is controlled by another new company ,Fiat. Chrysler is NOW doing better than ever and I can't wait to see what the future holds for this outstanding brand.
Btw, my mother wants me to pick her up in the Crossfire all the time, she misses it and is happy that i am taking excellent care of her old car.
She does not know I race it, alot! lol.

Re: De-badge.
The only thing that accelerates faster than AMG-powered vehicles, is their depreciation.
It has been my experience that the badge on the front seldom guarantees class of the driver.
I've seen many morons pilot supercars, ultimately wrapping them around a curb/telephone pole because they had no respect for the machine. I've seen people with humble beginnings suddenly forget where they came from, once they finally got behind the wheel of an exclusive brand. The driver didn't change, they still put their pants on like the rest of us. Only their attitude suffers.
I personally know two millionaires that go to my church... both drive econo-boxes. They could care less about badging.
Removing the badges from a car is a way to make the car appear "cleaner" if you will... Someone commented earlier about that being "rice"... Since when is humility and understatement "rice"? If de-badging is rice, leaving the factory badging on surely must be lazy, right?
If the owner wishes to put 30 yards of chrome piping on his car, that's his right. While not my personal choice, the owner also has a right to throw as many AMG badges on his SRT as he wishes. People get ugly tattoos every day, but once the ink is laid, why insult the wearer? Anyone who adds badges to his/her ride knows the risks of being ridiculed by purists, and weighs that against the potential "attaboys" from uninformed motorists.
Unless you're paying his note, your opinion of what he does to his car is presumptuous at best... offensive, if nothing else.

Well said John..
I've always loved seeing vettes.. mercedes.. etc. parked at some shack of a house. Guess they are "somebody" till they get home at least. My car and "status" driving down the road is not the priority in life. And like you, have known a multi-millionair who wore old blue jeans and flannel shirts regularly going about his business, then there was Mr. Flash (millionaire) who was an arrogant a$$. Guess who I had the most respect for. "If" I ever badged my Xfire with AMG.. Mercedes..or whatever it would be to indicate pride in the manufacturer.. Not "look at me and what I'm driving".

Re: De-badge.
On the way home yesterday evening, I had a fellow in a Maserati Quatroporte (mildly modded, at least some rims) nearly get in an accident from the other side of the road trying to figure out what I was driving. He was not looking because of the mini-van grille or the sebring hood that Chrysler gave us, or the powerplant that Mercedes gave us, he was looking at the CAR that I have made my XF. IMHO through my own blood, sweat, and tears I have modified the car and she wins shows and get awards. This is because it is understated and classy, not because it is ricey.
Things like subtle OEM paint on items that were cheap faded plastic from the factory and making the car symmetrical by debadging shows that the owner has style and originality beyond what you can simply purchase off the show room floor. Sometimes this style, and the multiple show trophies, inspire others to dislike or be jealous. Dislike all you want, but respect the work that it took to get it where it is, don't just write it all off as ricey, because most of the modded euros I see are debadged, and some of them cost more than the average house

After a quick glance at your gallery......I'd say you have made some great mods.....I'd love to see a carbon fiber hood on this one without painting it
