It's dead (for now)
It's dead (for now)
Coming home Thursday night, Xfire died at a light and would crank but not start. Got it fired up after a few minutes. Check engine light came on. About 10 miles later, it died while I was driving down the road at about 75 mph. As I was on a back country road, when I got it restarted, I pulled into the next side road, turned around and waited to see if it would die again. It did.
My guess was the crank position sensor.
Had it towed to the dealer that night. It took them all day Friday to finally decide it was the crank position sensor. Not sure why it took them 7 hours to figure that out. Of course, by then, they couldn't get the part until Monday (they have to use the Chrysler part because it's a warranty job). So, at the earliest, I get the car back Monday afternoon.
The service writer also told me there was an open recall on the car, but couldn't say what it was for.
Extended warranty covers a rental, so I ended up with a quad cab, Chevy Silverado pickup. Man... it's quite a change from driving the Xfire!

Re: It's dead (for now)
Good luck with the car (and the Dealer)...lol...
Now I see why many folks carry a CPS Sensor in the trunk of thier car, it's for situations just like this.
I think the part can be had for around $50 bucks online.
Post details on the Recall, inquiring minds would like to know what the Dealer is talking about.
The only one that comes to (my) mind is that Fan Recall...

Re: It's dead (for now)
It's fixed and I have it back. It was the CPS. They had the car from Thursday evening until this evening (4 days). I'm glad to have it back and to be rid of that giant school bus I was driving. Man, the XFire feels like a fighter jet compared to that beast.
The recall they took care of was the one for the fan (E19 recall).
I was going to put new brakes and rotors on last weekend. That plan got shot to hell. I've have all the parts sitting here in the garage. Looks like I'll be doing it Wednesday night or maybe Friday.

Re: It's dead (for now)
With the car back from the dealer, I was finally able to do the front brake pads and rotors this weekend. Jeezus, what an easy job. The only thing easier than doing brakes on this car would be putting gas in it. I spend more time cleaning the wheels than I did on doing the brakes.
Inside of the wheels was solid black. I cleaned and polished them and gave them a good coat of wax. Should be good for a day or so now.
I went with Pep Boys ceramic brake pads ($47 for the set) and their OEM rotors ($47 each), so, new front grabbers for about $150 plus about 30 minutes labor.
Driving with no warning lights for the first time in months! Whoo hoo!!
