Default Zoom Zoom

'08 manual. This rev limiter is getting really frustrating. I had a CTS w/a 5 speed and almost identical hp/torque. That taller first gear would have helped here. Easy enough to say shift earlier, but nothing else I've ever seen comes up so quick, and nothing else takes the wind out of one's sails like having the car go brooooomfff with the nose 7" in front of the Camero (but would I still be 7" in front?).

It's really just a question of forgetting what the other car was like and getting to know the Crossfire better. What you need to do is street race more oft.....oh, wait, that's maybe not the very best advice I've ever given No, don't street race, it's dangerous and illegal. But really dangerous. And kinda stupid too.

Just drive the car hard from time to time until you get used to winding out 1st gear and grabbing 2nd at the right moment. I had sort of the same learning process when I replaced my Miata with the Crossfire.

Then go out and find that Camaro again.

Mike, the Miata and the Crossfire may have different 1st. gear ratios, but they're going the same speed at redline.

That number is for a 2006 Miata, which is the third gen car. I had a second gen car with a whole different drive train. Still, from some quick research I find that 1st in my Miata would have topped out at 34mph, which isn't that far off. But that speed comes up noticeably faster in the Crossfire.

But regardless, the Miata and Crossfire just flat our feel different. And I suspect VegasLegal's CTS and Crossfire feel very different from one another as well - just any two varying makes and models will. So no matter what you used to drive, you just need to unlearn old habits and relearn new ones. The car ain't gonna change, so you had better, simple as that.

Oh, and how funny that this thread is titled "Zoom zoom" and the first guy to respond is an ex Mazda owner?

Yeah I noticed the zoom zoom title immediately as well.
We have a 1st. generation Miata in our garage that we haven't driven since the Crossfire showed up, so I hardly remember how 1st. gear felt.

Get Eurocharged or another tuner to raise the rev limiter in the first two or three gears.
It won't really change anything except the speed you are going when you hit it.

I've hit the rev limiter a few times when accelerating hard. I'd guess I'd rather feel foolish when the car temporarily dies versus how I'd feel if I blew the engine (more permanent death).

I hit the rev limiter in turn 3 at Gateway Raceway when we were there, it was a panic moment until I remembered the limiter.
