Finally found a replacement for my Crossfire...No its not another Crossfire
Finally found a replacement for my Crossfire...No its not another Crossfire
Hey guys, its been a while since I have actually posted anything on the forum. Some of you may remember my pics from the end of June when my Crossfire was totaled. Since then I have been searching for a suitable replacement. I almost put the money down on a beautiful SSB back in August but thought I would go for something different. I loved my Crossfire and would still have it if it hadn't been wrecked but since the incident happened I thought life was too short to stick with same thing if I have to opportunity to try something new. Here is what I finally found, and it was worth the wait....

Hope you guys don't mind me posting up pics of a BMW here, I just wanted to share with you all. I do still plan on dropping in from time to time. This forum has been a great asset to me.

Great looking car. I entertained this before deciding on the crossfire. I'm entertaining this as a choice for a roadster in the future (I have a coupe now), but it would be in addition to my crossfire. I'm likely to get an XFire roadster though for a number or reason, including the fact that I'll already have a very good basis of understanding of the mechanicals. Good luck with the car and enjoy it.

Great choice! I love the z4's...landshark!
If the Z3's are any indication, the value of this vehicle will hold at $8k. Many 1997 Z3's are holding around $8k so your Z4 has many more valued years to go.
And I like the cut of the cars, it still looks like a concept car.
My choice in Z4 convertible is the Urban Green.

It makes a sexy little roadster look like a military vehicle.
And then I gotta give props to the coupe. It is dead sexy.
A guy in town drives his black Z4 convertible all year long. It holds it's own in snowy conditions, the guy seems to do fine. Of course he's not speeding in it.

Congrats on the new ride! You will LOVE it. I have a Z4 and Crossfire.
Here were my thoughts between them (second update), be curious to see what you think: https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...ire-coupe.html

Re: Finally found a replacement for my Crossfire...No its not another Crossfire
Thanks for all of the compliments everyone. While I was not crazy about the styling when the z4 first came out, it has really grown on me over the years. It's odd how your perception can change over time. Now I think its gorgeous but I can see how people would be turned off by it. I agree it does look like a concept car. That is one reason why I like it so much. It is alot like the crossfire in the sense that there really isn't anything else like it on the road. Comparatively speaking the Crossfire is smoothing and easier to drive for longer periods of time, where as the Z4 is a bit rougher but more fun and more engaging to drive. The Z4 doesn't quite have the solidity feel of the Crossfire but by no means low quality. It is ironic that I have found the Z4 to be free of rattles while my Crossfire dash would squeak over some road surfaces. The price of the Z4 was in the high teens. It is a 2003 and was purchased with 24,800 miles. It is the first car I have bought that has every single option I would have ordered with it if I had bought it new. Sport package with 18 wheel (I love the styling of these particular wheels), premium package with carver sound system, 6 speed, power and heated everything, NAV, black power top, two tone leather, and titanium silver metallic. Only took 4 months to find lol...
Re: Finally found a replacement for my Crossfire...No its not another Crossfire
lol...There is actually a cup holder on each end of the dash. They pop in and out just under the AC vents. This design has also received alot of criticism but I like it far better than the one in the Crossfire...
Re: Finally found a replacement for my Crossfire...No its not another Crossfire
I agree with you comments on the Z vs XF.
Some tips as a 2003 Z4 3.0 owner myself with 40K miles.....
* The nifty cup holders - be very careful getting in or out with a drink in them. They break off easy.
* Suspension - keep a close eye on it. Sway bar end links loosen easy and I've replaced all 4 springs - very common for these after 4-5 years. Tighten stuff up often :-). The price of an incredible handler
* Run flat tires - I got rid of them and it made for a more balanced ride. Your taste may vary but with run flats it tram lines in grooves.
* Convertible top motor - the drains clog and retained water can rust out the motor. Keep it garaged when you can to reduce the odds.
PM me with any questions, I don't want to sidetrack this any more from being an XF forum.
ENJOY!

Re: Finally found a replacement for my Crossfire...No its not another Crossfire
First let me say Congrats on the Z4, the Z Series was very high on my list, before I literally stumbled across the Crossfire, and it's German attributes.
Today I'm a solid Xfire fan, after chasing and owning BMW's a good part of my life.
I started with a 2002, graduated to a 320, thought I was the koolest in a 633, and climaxed on a 1973 3.0 CSI.
I was and still am a hugh fan of German engineering. This is not a knock against any other maker or emblem, it just that when you get behind the wheel of German built auto's, you can't put it into words, but you know it's special when you drive it.
The nice thing about a BMW emblemed car, is that you don't have the discussion area that the Xfire carries, namely being a MB Karmann built car, with Chrysler badges.
A minor issue in my mind, but it seems to be a stickler for some of the German affectionados, (and MB shops that won't touch them with a ten foot pole).
For me it was a toss up between a Z and the Xfire, and the Xfire won because I found a very good deal on the Xfire, and I couldn't get the same bang for my buck with a similiar Z car (price wise that is).
I consider both to be really good auto's, but now that I own the Xfire, it's my new favorite German auto...lol...
