Default Brand New Owner -- help me please.

Hello everyone !

Me and my husband are the new proud owners of a Crossfire She handles like a dream. We took her home on Saturday, and have recieved numerous compliments -- mainly because noone has ever seen one in the area.

My only concern is this -- when we got home, we wanted to wax her, and noticed huge gashes underneath the front fender. Looks like previous people who had taken her for a test drive hit a driveway and scraped her bottom. I was furious at myself for not looking hard enough when we were at the dealers. At the very least it would have knocked down the price. So I called the people up yesterday and they said to bring her in and they would fix it. I asked if I was responsible for the cost, and he said he didnt see why I would be. SO my question is this -- how do I make sure that they arent just gonna spray paint her to cover the gashes?

Also -- Ive been reading these posts -- and noone seems thrilled by the mopar front cover. How good is the 3M paint guard, and how much does it cost? Is it worth paying the $300 to get the park sensors, and does the dealer have to install them?

One more thing .. and sorry for the long post --- MO allowes 6 characters for plates, or 5 characters plus a space, dash or apostrophe. Any suggestions for this Flight Attendant ?

a) take pictures, run your hand across the old vs. the new to see if you can 'feel' the gashes before/after.

b) dunno about the 3M paint guard. Is that a clear bra? There's some threads about those turning yellow over time, but ...

c) Since the park sensors require drilling the bumper, me, I'd have the dealer do it (just in case something gets messed up)

d) FLY-ME

Enjoy the board, full of great info! And go into your Profile and put in your car color, interior color, tranny type, and VIN#.

Well, I went back to the dealer -- unfortunately it was this morning, before I got all of your replies. Its' gonna be in their shop on thursday -- for the day -- so they can repair her. They are giving me a rental for that day. They assured me it would not be spray painted. I'm kicking myself for not asking for a new one. We did inspect the car when we were there -- but unless you get lie down on the floor and look up -- you can't see any damage. I'm wonderign if this was an honest mistake on their part. Could it be they didnt know about it? Or did they, because they were so quick to fix it for me? On their dime, not mine.

The car is white. Plus scratches ( grey ) and a dent in the fender ( black ). *mad*.

What is the law ? Can a consumer return a car if not satisfied within 30 days? My dealer only had 2 other Xfire's -- a '04 red ( dont like the color ), and a white '05. If I demand a new one does he have to order it?

What do I do?

Hi FLTATT welcome to the forum....although you hurt my babys feelings :-)
Since you say you had to lay down and crawl under the car to notice the damage for now I'd give the dealer the benefit of doubt and assume they did not know about it.
There is no cool off period on vehicles, at least not in CA, but a dealer or company "Saturn" may offer such a deal.
I am no lawyer so I can't say for sure, but once you sign and drive off the lot the car is yours. If it ain't working right or has damages you have to give the dealer a chance to fix them. There is something called the Lemon Law that controls all that.

Btw which carrier are you flying for ??? I am a very frequent traveller, so we may meet up in the air some time.

As of right now -- Im taking her in on Thursday -- women's intuition -- but so far the delaer has been more than accomodating. Had I seen it at the dealer's I could have probably gotten a couple k's taken off -- or the '05, but I like the '04.

Could have, would have, should have.

Other than that, there are no issues with the car.

I have 30 days to get her registered and get her plates -- this is what I've come up so far -- keep in mind that hubby will drive her on occassion too -- he's military.

FLT ATT
I-FLY
FLYN
FLYNHI
HIFLYN
BUHBYE
SKYFEM
BYENOW

Suggestions welcome.

Oh, and I'm with USAirways.

Didn't like mine above, eh?

Do you do any Dulles runs? I fly out of Dulles a LOT (I'm in Newport RI right now, which USAir only can get me here from Reagan National, and I hate driving to that airport!).

Please, PLEASE pick BUHBYE! I would get hysterical and crash if I suddenly figured that one out.

See if your husband can get my FMTHEC - tho' he may be the wrong type. Whiteman?

BTW, I actually wouldn't worry about the scratches. It would have happened sooner or later. I've already got stone chips and wheel dings. Just turn the key and feel the love.

As for the dealer? Give them the benefit of the doubt. If it was that difficult for you to notice it could easily slip past them.

Don't beat yourself up over saving a couple thousand if you had noticed it before you signed. It is likely a $100 to $200 fix. That is about as much discount as you would have received. This way you get it fixed for only $100 to $200. If you had gotten that as a price discount, you may have found yourself being shocked by what some bodyshops would have charged. And you are getting a rental with the dealership.

Take it in stride and enjoy your new ride!!!

I like the FLYNHI and I am man enough to admit I am still working on BUHBYE ;-)
USAir just joined the Star-Alliance right ???? I usually fly out of ONT to my work assignments so if you ever have that route drop me a line :-)

Thank you so much for all the suggestions and comments. You guys are the best!

David -- FLY-ME won't work. Might as well put DO ME . I used to live in Alexandria VA, and flew out of DCA and IAD all the time. Then I switched to International. I'm now in MO.

Dan -- I like XF-FLYN -- but too many characters, unless I omit the dash. I want to get the fight terrorism plates -- and they only allow for 6 letters, or 5 letters plus the dash, space, or aprostophe.

qtrfoil -- will ask hubby in the morning if he can figure out FMTHEC -- I see your location is Alexandria VA -- are you mil ? I'm guessing you are since your plate appears to have a military reference. BUHBYE is the only one hubby is happy with so far. He sais he'd feel funny driving a car with a girly flight att reference. Don't blame him though.

The dealer has my benefit of the doubt. I'm not one to cop a bitchy attitude and demand a brand new car. He took me over to the repair shop and they were very accomodating in terms of scheduling the repair and the rental for the day. We'll see how it turns out -- they did tell me that they'd made her look like new. So we'll see.

And yes, Im loving the car

Ok -- I'm getting her registered on friday most probably. Have I mentioned that Missouri charges you 4.5% sales tax when you get the title, registration and plates done? Every other state that I know of does this when you buy the car at the delaership. Oh well -- that God this MO is temp.

Me and hubby have settled for BUHBYE --- I'll probably get a customized licence plate holder at some point -- yes, aviation related.

Not in Nevada - we get to go to DMV and spend 3 - 4 hours there to get our new cars registered :!:

Here in AZ the car is registered through the dealer. As for custom plates, registration renewal etc it can all be done online.
