Hmmm No Daytime Driving lights
Hmmm No Daytime Driving lights
I have a feeling this is a simple soulution. Has anyone seen where there daytime driving lights do not work?
I recall day 1 they worked, I looked through the manual it says that with the engine running and the car in Drive the low beams etc should be on.
I have regular lights on when I turn on the normal headlight switch. But no daytime driving lights...
Anyone have a clue or seen this before. I'm thinking a relay somewhere is not working...
Of should I take thie to the Tech side of the forum...
Thanks in advance,
Mo

I wish it DID have DRL! Is it perhaps that you clicked one or two clicks to the left of off (**** pointing straight up) and had either the left or right "standing" lights lit and thought they were DRL's???

it's a lesson learned from my bike riding. my bike does not come with an "off" switch for the headlight. small things approaching really fast are hard for some people to see. especially if they're some idiot in a huge s.u.v. talking on a cell-fone wanting to turn into or thru a lane of traffic while snarfing a burger.

So you think lights on in the day will stop some idiot in a huge s.u.v. talking on a cell-fone wanting to turn into or thru a lane of traffic while snarfing a burger? I don't think so!!
Also, if you get in the habbit of turning the lights on, what if you forget to turn them off, you'll have a flat battery and be going no where in the morning.

I road bikes for many years and never once was saved by a guy in a car, during the day, driving with his lights on. It was morons trying to change lanes into my lane that was the biggest problem. I also agree that lights on a bike are a good idea as well as straight drag pipes that make a lot of noise. Anything to make people look at the bike and realize it's there. I still stand by my statement about daytime running lights on cars being dumb. If you want to drive around in sunshine with you lights on knock yourself out..... But then when I go down to the beach I see tourons (Va. Beach slang for a cross between a tourist and an moron) wearing shorts and black socks with wingtips walking through the sand....Different strokes for different folks.
I'm with Houstondan. You do what you can to increase the odds of success, especially if it essentially doesn't cost anything. The human brain is wired to immediately recognize highlights - sometimes even when talking on the phone. So, I generally put my foglamps on during the daytime. Fortunately, the car "reminds" you when the key is removed but the lights are left on, and I'd rather have a dead battery than an accident anytime.

second, i think i see the problem. you don't understand the concept. "never once saved by a guy... with his lights on..." no, it's not him seeing you and saving you...it's you seeing him! turning on the lights is not going to help you see anything. it helps other people see you. they are not as likely to change lanes into you if they know you're there. and yes, you're right, the pipes do help.
think about it...we are driving a really little car, really fast. isn't it better if other people can see us? and, while we're at it, one of the hardest colors to see is.....white. black is pretty bad too. depends on time of day etc.

I see in your signature that you get your booze from France. For obvious reasons, english_bob..... I don't buy a single thing that comes from France. My ancestry is French, but after visiting there once I don't claim it. They are the most rude people I have ever seen. My Mother was french and, Thank God, my Dad was Irish.... 2 guesses which one I claim (and if you guess France.... that guess doesn't count).
Thankfully my Volvo has a defeat switch option for it's DRL's. Turned them off the day I bought it. If someone can't see this Emerald Green Station Wagon coming they should not be on the road. Another one of Joan Claybrooks lunatic fringe ideas. Here in Florida you must turn on your lights in rainy weather, a logical response to the notion of DRL's.
The early Saturns (among others) DRL's really are a menace causing me many times to avert my eyes from their glare. Not a great safety measure for them or me. Thankfully the ranks of DLR's are declining.
First question I asked the salesman about a Crossfire was - Does it have DRL's? Greatfully I got the right answer. 150 mph on the autobahn and no DRL's? Horrors!!!
