Default bas/esp light???

i know, i'll post this in a tech area too but:

has anyone had a problem with the bas/esp light coming on and staying on and the dealer can't figure out why??? the machine confirms an "error" but that's it. he thinks there might have been a t.s.b. somewhere along the line but isn't sure. i can't find anything like that.

the cruise control went out at the same time but i'm thinking, since the brake is the escape from the cruise then maybe that's a default; if any problem is detected in the brakes then the cruise disables. traction control still works. don't know about the brake assist.

anyway, the dealer sent me home with it while they talk to chrysler.

also got the back window problem working with them and they expect to do a new window. looked on the lot and 2 of 7 crossfires have that problem.

Dan, within the first 500 miles, my bas/esp light would come on and stay on for about three ignition cycles (or more) before shutting itself off. I could tell no difference in driving or operation. After the dealership replaced the Body Control Module (due to no windshield wiper operation) the light stopped coming on...almost.

Since the BCM replacement, the bas/esp light has reappeared one time, but again reset itself after a few ignition cycles, and has not come back on in the last few weeks (1000 miles or so.)

According to the technician, a short in the BCM can create all sorts of electrical/sensor nightmares.

My dealership has been very diligent in handling this problem in addition to the radio replacement at the same time.

Yes, I believe I had the honor of being the first Crossfire in the world to have that problem last year.

Have your dealership contact Chrysler on the issue, there is also a thread here that I've written about the problem and the collaborative effort that Chrysler US, Germany and my dealership put together that solved the problem.

Have them check the Illumination Module that is situated behind the headlight switch. If you are having the same problem like me, and from your description it looks like it, it will fix your problem to replace that.

Here's the link to the long thread which starts off with my complaints and ends with a successful resolution:

ok, the brake lights are kaput. seems the dealer would have noticed that when the car was in for "computer indication:brakes". bet they are getting so focused on that computer screen that if it doesn't prescribe an action, they don't take it. noone thought to actually check the brake-lights on the car. i'm not real happy about them putting me back on the street with an illegal/dangerous vehicle but then i should have noticed it to, as pilot-in-command.

chrysler told 'em to bring the car back, jack it in and they'll direct the diagnostics by phone. odd that they can't just net-link it.

anyway, looks like junky-loaner time for a few days starting monday.

You definitely have the same problem as me. Failure of the Illumination Module will cause the brake lights to fail and the BAS/ESP light to come on.

In fact, when there were diagnosing it, that was what the head mechanic noticed, brake lights failing, which led them to the module.

Once they replace that, you'll be back on the road.

Good luck.
