Default Trailer Hitch?

I know, I know. What would you need a trailer hitch on a car like this for?
I have been building and flying model aircraft for about ten years now and have several planes that have 6'+ wingspans. An obvious problem trying to fit one in the Crossfire. If there was a light duty hitch or something similar available I could build a small/light trailer to transport the planes to the field. Then I can mix driving the Xfire and going to the field to fly at the same time. Any suggestions?

How about a roof rack? Not possible with my drop top though
Used to fly RC helis. Actually I'm looking to get back into it as the newer designs with the gyros and higher tech machines make flying easier than back in the day.
To answer your question, I would imagine it would be quite difficult to put a hitch on the XF with the exhaust exiting in the center. IMO

I talked with u-haul about a hitch-- they said it's a custom job and that i'd have to take it in for them to look at it. Haven't had time and kind of lost interest :-D

i fly rc planes as well...only 40-60 size. my wife fortunately has an x5 for my use. i would recommend an inexpensive p/u truck with a cap.

Thanks for the replies, I have an S-10 with a cap on the back that I usually use. It's a 16 mile drive to the field that would be a lot more enjoyable in the Xfire than my old truck. Uhaul did a disgusting job installing the hitch on said truck so I am hesitant to take it to them. Thanks for the suggestions though and if anyone has any more please post them.

Better check your owner's manual for advice. You don't have a lot of payload to be playing with in Crossfire. Driver, passenger, a bolt-up hitch underneath, and then whatever on top of that, and pretty soon your overloading it...

Not saying you absolutely CAN'T, but I sure as heck wouldn't be ruining the lines of this car with a hitch! That's why God created pickups and SUV's....

I tow my 28' Airstream, no problem.

Just kidding.

All the manual says is 'not recommended.'

I would LOVE to get a hitch so that I can take my stuff to the race track on a tiny trailer (tires, parts, cooler etc). Its gotta be cheaper than buying a trailer to hauler my xfire and stuff. But the hitch has got the be detachable in some way, because the rear end of the car is stylish and I wouldn't want to ruin the looks. Once again, looks/styling gets in the way of practicality...

LOL I was just discussing the hitch problem in order to get both my bike and Xfire to my 100% size airport for some pictures, without having to let someone else drive either one of them ;-)
I don't think there is any real chance for a hitch on the Xfire.....there is none for the SLK that I know off. :-)

The exhaust is the real catcher. You would either have to bridge under it (weakening the hitch) or redirect he exhaust (in my view unacceptable).

The wife and I had discussed it, a while back, there is plenty of room in the truck for luggage for even a week or so, but if you add gifts or other non-essentials it can be a real hastle. And, we were thinking one of those little untra-light motorcycle trailers wouldn't be too bad, they have some nice striking designs, and wouldn't be hard to find one that didn't clash and might even compliment with the shape of the car, then we would just have pay that bloated cost for the SSB paint.

So far we are getting around it with simplifying. And, driving a half a suit of armour this last holiday.

Thanks again for the responses. I'm one of those "can't believe it can't be done" kinda guys, and knowing that others are looking into the same problems really puts a fire in mty shorts so to speak. The small motorcycle trailer idea is exactly the type of thing I had in mind. If I come up with anything at all I will be sure to post it here with pics.
