2004 Crossfire Bumped in Rear End, Now key fob wont turn off alarm and car wont start
2004 Crossfire Bumped in Rear End, Now key fob wont turn off alarm and car wont start
I had my 04 Crossfire parked in my rear office parking lot. Someone hit and ran the rear end. It is only going to be about 800 dollars to fix it at the auto body shop (going ahead and having the front end and hood re shot due to sand and pebble damage in Feb for another 1300.)
My main problem is after discovering the hit and run (due to hearing my alarm go off) I can not turn off the alarm with the key fob or start the car. The alarm goes off after 30-60 seconds but when I turn the key I just hear a loud ticking noise. The car does not turn over and I hear no mechanical noises such as a started.
The auto body shop is not sure why it wont crank and I want to know if this is common or if I should have it towed to my Mercedes mechanic after the shop is done reshooting it.
I have about 75k miles on it. Other than the sand and pebble chips and the now bumped rear end the car looks brand new!
Any help would be great!

Just read the paper inside the fuse box it lists alarm under the one.

I'm not the smartest guy out here, but it sounds like the Tow Alarm. We had a sonic boom and got the same indications. Maybe resetting the Tow switch a couple of times might reset it. I am sure there will be more answers. Good luck.

My alarm was going crazy it would go off all the time on it own i was able to start the car tho and drive it while it was going off but it wasn't going off for a theft reason or a disturbance so the full effects of the alarm may not have engaged. Try any and all solutions before you go to the stealership!

My car was iin my parking place around 5:00 PM, no body around when a jet goes over and boom. Now the alarm goes off, can not turn it off fob does not work. I could manually unlock the doors but the car would not start. Thougt of disconnecting the battery. Real bad idea. Called the wife to bring two more fobs, and new batteries. Still nothing but a loud noise. Finally a friend was sitting in the car playing with the switches. He hit the Tow Switch a couple of times. The alarm stops, the fob and now the car starts. I was amazed. Then I look at the forum and the book, there it was, It had to be the Tow Sensor.
Again Good Luck...

Thank you both for the info, I called the auto body shop and gave them a heads up of what to try.
I may have to check out that Eurocharge, a little pep around the mountains would be nice. I currently average 32 miles per gallon in my Xfire. My normal shifting pattern around town avoids second and forth, for the most part. Second is only good if I want to get on it and 4th is pointless unless traffic is heavy or I want to go over 90mph quickly.

Thats what I got in the city it seems are cars get great great city mileage but start sucking down the gas after 75mph at 72mph after the eurocharge I was getting 37 high way but I was running west on I80 so hills were few and far between. City driving you wont notice the gas savings because the ecu gives the car more fuel when it starts to get hot so your back to the rich factory like settings. You'll really notice it on cold mornings and nights!

From San Diego, CA to Reno, NV I avg. 32 MPG. From Reno, NV to Tampa, FL I avg. 33-34mpg. That is with the cruise control set between 80mph-90mph. As I said I get about 31mpg around the city. Much higher than I expected when I first picked up the vehicle back in 2005. The great gas mileage is one reason I never tried to customize anything. I usually go crazy personalizing my cars but other than eibachi suspension and Maduras rims I have kept it stock.

Though since getting rid of my 66 Ranchero and MG Midget I have decided I will probably tinker with the Xfire. Thinking about going to true dual exhaust, a CAI, and doing the Eurogcharge Tune up.
If I don't start messing with my car my wives Prius might end up full electric haha.

Just wanted to thank everyone for their help! I ended up having to have to disconnect the battery to get everything to reset... that is when I learned that although the main battery is disconnected.... the alarm has a separate battery haha. I looked foolish when I disconnected it with a smile of accomplishment to only have the alarm keep blaring in my face.
