desperate for help
desperate for help
So I have an 06 crossfire, manual transmission. about a week ago the clutch stopped engaging. Realizing that it was most likely the clutch plate and the flywheel I had it towed to my mechanic.. they're saying its going to be a $1700 repair. I am stationed in the colorado springs area and if there is anyone here who knows of a better place or have suggestions please help me. I'm a soldier who just got back from deployment a few weeks ago and most certainly cannot afford a $1700 repair!
Re: desperate for help
I was quoted $1500-1600 by a small independent MB/BMW shop with a good reputation last year (I was looking at an XF with a bad clutch, the car was being offered at a bargain-basement price - I passed on it.)
Point is: I don't think you are being ripped off, the only cheaper way is to live near someone who can do this work that won't charge you the going labor rate and parts mark up.

Re: desperate for help
I don't quite understand - the garage has taken the damaged clutch out but want another payment to fit a new clutch? They've already done half the work haven't they? LUK clutches over here were about £200 last time I checked, don't know if they are over your way or if they ship
Re: desperate for help
In my younger days, every base had an auto hobby shop and there was always someone willing to earn a couple of bucks to fix a tranny or clutch. I guess times change. You might want to look into that in the future.
Just about anyone who races cars or off roads knows that if drive them hard; you will break them. Remember that next time you are tempted to get on it. It may be fun BUT ...
Like Doc said "Thanks for your service". I can't believe the stress we put our military and their families under today. That comes from a guy with 20 plus years of active duty.
