Default Tire pressure Light

Hey guys!

The tire pressure warning light came on a few days ago and untill last night I didn't have time to check the pressure. So I ended up having lost 2 Pounds (front left) and 4 pounds (front right). I'm going to keep an eye on both tire cause there might be a leak...but now to my question...the tire pressure warning light is still on and won't go away. What can I do about it? I don't really like driving around with warning leds on my dashboard.
Thanks --

I know on my Daughter's Pontiac I can reset the TPS via the cars onboard Computer.

With the Xfire, I don't think that's the case.

Once the PSI is set right, I think it should go away after driving a while, unless you got a bad unit in one of the tires.

I'm sure someone will comment and confirm or deny...

If the battery finally dies in one of the senders, the light comes on and stays on.

I THINK the light comes on if the pressure in any tire goes below 25 or 26 pounds. I also believe it comes on above 38 or so pounds, but I'm not sure. (Mine came on at the Dragon a year ago, one tire was down to 24 and others were around 29).

The standard pressure is 34 or 35 psi, if your tires went down to about 30, I don't think the light would come on. I don't know if a dealer can read what sensor has failed or not.

The base models had no TPMS, and I wonder if that is why one car was destroyed at the Dragon last fall. I have always wondered if he didn't have a soft tire - with his car being a base model, he'd have no warning, and the accident played out like there may have been a soft tire that made a bad combination with tall, wet grass.

GET IT FIXED.

My tire pressure light has been on for 2 years, through tire changes and umpteen pressure checks by me and the tire shop. Had the codes pulled at the dealer this week for an unrelated problem and there's nothing there. Their Crossfire tech told me that some Corssfires will suddenly have code and sensor problems after driving through standing water on the streets. Great.

The point is, it won't clear and it won't ever go off. Gremlin.

They will trip at +- 10% (~3.5 psi). generally, driving around will make it go off. It took ~75 miles for mine to re-set last month after a top-off.

If the battery dies, the sensor dies with it, Replacement time. (See below).

If a pair of sensors is swapped, (R/L tire rotation, for example) the light will come on. If this happens, a dealer is the only one that can re-sync these buggers.

I'm one of those that really is bothered by warning lamps. I get it fixed.

Good luck.

I'm one of those that really is bothered by warning lamps, too.

The reason I came to this forum was to get tips and advice on maintaining the coolest car I've driven since I owned an Alpha Romeo Spider in the late 70's- early 80's and I need to figure out why the tire pressure sensor light is on always.

Thanks.

I fixed it. Sorry, I just can't help myself sometimes.

I find it hard to understand that with your background you'd let it stay on? I'll just try to be more helpful, and less combative in the future.

I'm a jerk, but I can be a fun jerk-ask around!

My pressure warning light came on a few weeks ago, and as I don't use the car very often, topped all my tires up last weekend, and my warning light went off straight away. Don't you love it when things DO WORK. LOL
Mind you ,with the luck I have had just lately, it makes me wonder, if I have a JINX or something.

billie.... Max did answer your question....correctly!... the light will come on if there is a 10% +/- difference in one or more tires.... mine have done it a couple of times in the 3+ years I have had it. Fill all the tires to the same pressure and then go for a drive.... at some point it will reset. I have had it reset within a couple of miles and other times not until I drove 25 or so miles....

FYI, you can get the light on during winter if the car is outside... I usually have that happen a few times a year... after the tires warm up it goes out.

The batteries in the sensors die at about 6 to 7 years of age. You can replace the sensors at great expense, put a piece of black electrical tape over the light, or put out wire number 2 from the garage door sender unit.

Max, you're to big to be called a jerk and as a matter of fact you are far from one, perhaps the offended party is a tad too sensitive having jousted most of his time on the politics forum.
You have seen what that does to normal people, they end up trash talking everybody.

Talking Re: Tire pressure Light

I pulled the TPS light wire and never look back. Tire pressure is as easy as looking at the tires, are they pooched out, and it it visible from directly above the tire. I check the tire pressures about weekly and know them so there will be no suprises.

I did all this after messing around with dealers and the closed society they have for resetting and reading the senors and special tools and my $service fees let alone waiting for the appointment and being stuck or leaving the car, rather not do that. To me its more bother than value, maybe for my mom its ok.

For what? Asking about tire pressure sensors? That's what I'm talking about...
Patience is a Virture, and Yes they are a fresky bunch...lol...

Over time you will learn to luv them, or at least like them.

Bottom line, there is a wealth of pent up knowledge that's free for the asking, so I tend to ignore the crap, and just keep on asking.

And thou shalt receive...

Hey, bud. I was just trying to apologize for some uncalled for comments I made.

If you can't accept it. Fine.

Mike, next time you're heading down 101 through Bandon, let me know? My dads wife lives there, and I'd like you to stop and say hi. She's the sweetest 85 you'll ever meet, and it might be a year or more before I can get out there.

My wife's 2008 tire light also comes on occasioanlly. So much, we started getting concerned. We took it for a spin and here comes the light on again. I pulled over and read in the manual that this is normal. So I took my tire gage out correct the air, both front and rear, and started to contnue down the road. Before ending the drive the light came on again, and I was baffeled. I to thought it was the gage. I took it down to my tire expert here in town and he told me that when driving long times and curvy roads with this heat the tires will actually expand. He took a little air our (not much) and now we have not seen the light come on. Just thought I would pass this on for you "just weekenders" divers out there. ENJOY the ride.
