Default Check Engine Light

Hey guys!

Had something weird happen to me over the last couple of weeks. Every once in a while, I start the car, then stalling but eventually it will turn on and THEN the check engine light stays on. It stays on for a few hours and the next day its off again. What does this point to? The stalling at engine star is what concerns me. Once again, this doesn't happen with every start but when it happens the warning light pops up. I got a 2004 Limited N/A with 54,000 Miles on it.
Thanks for any hints of what might cause this (Spark plugs, etc.)

Thanks,
Nick

First guess
MAF sensor is dirty
Second guess
O2 sensor.

Third guess is
fuel pump failure.

Wow, pretty detailed diagnosis for as little info as he posted. You must be getting better with age, Franc

Silly me, I was going to ask what the CEL code was LOL

Lotsa trips back to the parts store and late nights reading posts on this forum. Some of you guys actually do know your ****.

Please note I did say the magic word..."Guess"

True failure is the inability to recognize your mistakes when you repeat them.

Go to Autozone or other local parts place that will extract your fault code for FREE.
Then reply back with the code.

Just got back from Autozone for read outs.
Here's what they found:

1. Code: P0335 Crankshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Malfunction
2. Code: P0410 Secondary Air Injection System Pending

Lucky you. You got a prequell warning on what usualy means a failure to even start. Crankshaft Position sensor failure means a tow to the shop from the mall where you got stuck.

Unless you had one in your pocket and can do it yourself.

Here is a Crossfire specific 'How To' for the CPS.
https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum/technical-modifications/16885-crankshaft-position-sensor.html#post143294

As for the P0410 try this thread, as it says it may be just a poor ground. Burnt contacts in the RCM may be the culprit as well.
https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...-solution.html
There is no damage being done it appears so you could just live with the light. However it probably would not pass any State test with the light on.

If that does not anaswer your question try using search 'P0410', lots of answers.

Good job this is not baseball or you would be "OUT!" on three strikes.
A wrong guess counts as a swing and a miss here.

Given the original info, those were good guesses. And I admitted they were so.

Anyone with absolutely no knowledge of cars can suggest taking it over to Auto Zone. He asked what those symptoms might mean. CPS generaly doesn't let the E light go off and most often shuts the car down. As for the symptoms, I have experienced them and those where the components involved.

What's your beef? Or more to my puzzlement, what is the point of your beef?

Just went ahead and ordered the part. Found it online - original Mercedes part made by Bosch in Germany. Looked over the pictures of the installation and shouldn't be a problem to do. I will do it under supervision of my friend the mechanic

As for the post above, I think it's all just fun and games. Any tip here is greatly appreciated and I really like how people try to come up with solutions for the problem rather than saying "go to the dealership, they will figure it out for you (and also figure out how to empty your pockets)". So thanks to ya'll for contributing to this discussion.

Franc, you are spending too much time on the political forum. That was a joke, I know that jokes are as abundant as hens teeth in the political posts and you may have missed the joke.
So lighten up when your on other forums, no vitriolic posts here, well not lately anyway.
I will not joke with you again, how's that?
