Default $1,200 for Valve Cover/s Gasket/s

OK, finally got the '07 valve cover gasket fix.....the '08 was covered by the 3/36 bumper to bumper. The dealership said there was a TSB on '07s requiring them to not just replace the gasket materials ....BUT, both valve covers. From start to finish (both cars) the process has taken almost 2 months.

So when I show up at the dealership the guy says that will be $109 (the deductible), ......I said.."The Lifetime Powertrain Warranty has no deductible"....he looked in his computer & said ....oh yeah....NO CHARGE...SORRY.

So I asked him what it would have cost if I had not had a warranty, he said over $1,200!

The 07 has about 65,000 miles on it now....at about 40K+ miles the LPW also paid for the diff leak...they said that would have been almost $500. So, so far the LPW has saved me $1,700.....but then these leaks were all so minor I would never have had them fixed if I had to pay out of my own pocket.

Question, both of my XFs now have a sticker on the drivers side valve cover that says made in Austria...I had never noticed that before.....does everyone's have that sticker on there?

Maybe the covers were made in Austria. Your wheels were made in Poland, did you see the sticker?
This car has parts made all over Europe, none in North America, maybe that's a good thing.

I was just wondering if the '08s had a revised set of valve covers ...maybe a redesign attempt to stop the gasket leaks (if so it didn't work) as my 08 leaked just like my 07. Since I can't remember noticing the "Austria" stickers before the cars were worked on......I'm wondering about this cause the TSB (to replace the valve covers) did not apply to the 08....just the 07s.

When you said "Nope", did you mean there is no "Austria" sticker?

Since he has an '08 Coupe I am guessing that he means they didnt fix the problem and his are leaking.... common problem...easy fix....

I can't even guess why they would change your valve covers for a breather leak... it dosent look like they did a change to fix that problem.... if any change... (maybe your shop just wanted to get some warranty money???)

Man, since mine is out of warranty, I'd simply install a new gasket and have Rob teflon-coat mine while they were off... half the price, and a much prettier result!

I am trying to decide between paint, powder, and teflon right now for my extra set I am cleaning up.

Too many choices, but I think I am going to paint them orange/red in the same shade as my calipers to pull it together, thoughts?

That would look great. I'll end up going with the basic silver teflon when I do it, since the exterior of my car has a silver/white theme going on.

IIRC, Sheldon got his done by Rob and they're red. I'm pretty sure Rob can tint the teflon, unless you're bent on an exact match... then you might need to use your paint.

Yeah, I want it to as close as I can get, and since it is caliper paint, its rated to over 900 degrees, so no worries there.

baggin' the entire car this week to paint some matte black accents before woodward, think you will like the outcome

I took my 2007 Roadster Lmtd. in to my local Chrysler dealership for the leaky valve breather covers. It took 2 days for the parts to arrive and they replaced both valve covers incl. breather covers for total cost of $570.00. The drivers side cover has sticker with Germany stamped on it. I only had to pay the 100 dollar deductible per my extended warranty....no questions asked, no hassle. Two weeks and leak free...would the breather covers have been shipped already attached and sealed from the factory? Sure looks like someone was well aware of this problem and knew what to do.

I meant that 08's leak too, there's no Austria sticker that I know of on my covers.

Thanks Chris. Since those pics were taken, it looks quite different. I am trying to keep some suspense for Woodward and the Dragon, but should have some updated ones soon

My '07 leaked twice - 1st was a warranty reseal, 2nd was a valve cover replacement with Austrian parts.

Typing this on a HP Touchpad. Wife got 2 direct from HP for less than $100 each. 2 weeks ago they were $500 each. Maybe not as good as the IPAD my son in law bought my daughter 2 weeks ago for her birthday....but, he gave $600.
