MagnaFlow Muffler and Upsolute Chip
MagnaFlow Muffler and Upsolute Chip
I need your 2 cents on this.....I got my stock muffler replaced with a MagnaFlow #14220 and according to their data..it can give the Ford Mustang 12 more hp.
With the Upsolute Chip, K&N filter and MagnaFlow muffler..my 0-60 should be much shorter basing on the added horses from the mods. My 0-60 at this moment is 6.5 sec at 80 degrees with ESP "ON". Thats about the same reading before with the stock muffler.
I can't hardly feel much quicker pulling now compared with my stock muffler. Does that mean I'm gaining more torque and HP?
The low sound is awesome adding more steroids in acceleration

If you open it up too much then the opposite can happen... that is why the ricers go bing bing bing bog, bog, bog with their 3 inch mufflers... it is sad because they lost some low end torque because of their setup. Did you test it before and after the exhaust change out or only after you changed the chip and muffler? If you got no increase and no decrease but you like the sound better then you should be fine.

p.s. I am waiting for Borla to make a setup specifically for our car

I think you'd get more horsepower/torque bang for the buck replacing the factory cat than replacing the muffler. Less restrictive (but still street and emissions legal) cat's can be had... but as you point out you must be careful with decreasing the back pressure too much have the opposite effect.
Hey Dave! yah its been in the works for a while .. and I talked to Borla... they said this is normal.. they do it with most of their cars... then I talked to my dealer of tuner parts and he said june - july... and borla seems to go with it also ... so the release is SOOOOOON I cant wait I'm picking it up ASAP!!!
i really don,t think you have to worry about losing to much back pressure, our cars have 4 cats - 2- pre cats & 2- primery cats a free flowing muffler can only help your attempts at gainning more hp not hurt them!!! i have the same muffler -kn-and ecu remapping plus alittle trick i,ve done to the air boxes, and my car flys, no b.s, i,ve out ran a wrx-a rx-8 a v-6 mustang & cammaro, as well as a few others at the drags in fontana ca. so my advice is to go by feel & not your 0-60,s torq,s the key to power, it moves things, if you feel it in the seat of your pants & a push in your chest, then "smile" your making power!!!!

Horsepower is the rate of doing work over a given amount of time. One horsepower (1 HP) equals 550 ft-lb. per second or 33,000 ft-lb. per minute. This one is eaiser: RPM x Torque / 5252 = horsepower
Torque is the measurement of the strength of the rotational movement and determines how fast a caraccelerates up to a given speed.
Since horsepower is calculated from torque, what we are all seeking is really the greatest possible torque value over the broadest rpm range we can get. Horsepower will follow, and it will fall in the engine speed range dictated by the many factors that affect the torque curve.
These type of swaps make since in some cases. As said before a restrictive exhaust will effect top end torque and a less restrive exhaust will effect bottom end torque. However, with a larger engine displament (like a big V-8) the effective loss of low end torque on a more open exhaust will be dimminished and makes more since. On 4 cylinders and some V6 engines like ours this can hurt.
IMO it is rare to hear a V6 with a good exhaust sound. Our stock sound is fine with me. The porche 911 sound great. I have not heard the magnaflow that some of you are using but is sounds like you are happy with it.
When Borla comes up with their setup I will look at the change in the power curve (they usually have this info) to see if I want it or not. Knowing them I will. It is already June, where is it?!!

Actually, when I bought it to the shop..the mechanic was hesitant in replacing my stock muffler saying that in most V6 that he replaced their mufflers on makes a bumble bee sound then whines like a drill After he got it installed, he was amazed that it didn't make a BAD sound at all and was happy with it
On my first few days with it, I think the muffler is still breaking in and now...after 300 miles... the sound is much more smoother and I can feel that the acceleration is now kicking.
One thing I don't like with the stock sound is that it's a little girlish for me for a Crossfire that can really drag race. Though mine is just for cruising around on weekends, I wanna enjoy the muscle sound of my XFIREX and its speed

andrew: i have retained the stock tips on my switch-over, and any competent muffler shop will help you retain your stock apperence. my set-up looks like it did from the factory, with the acception of a v-8 tone & a beautiful mirror finish, and all for 205$ installed, "why pay more"? i guess people just like to spend money, that they don,t have? "truely speaking" personelize your car to your own style, and you will rejoice!!!!

Looks great.... I'm getting mine done on Tuesday. Really look forward to it. Thanks Cyril.
Insofar as the comment above....
IMO it is rare to hear a V6 with a good exhaust sound. ..
I couldn'd Disagree more
I also own a Prowler, equipped with a V6, and one of our fellow owners, Mr. Jay Harris, in Florida, developed a quite unique "SSS" muffler. and it sounds SO much like a V8. It can be done, believe me
