The reason the nozzle has an auto shut off is so the attendant dosent have to stand there and hold it... in Oregon you can not pump your own gas.. the attendants get them started and go to the next car... if it falls out, the fall would make the trigger release and stop the flow of gas....
I WOULD be VERY ticked about gas all over the side of my car and the damage from the nozzle falling on the side of my car... and the station would be liable for all damage..
