Default competition

Rip it started a very good thread in the srt6 forum about cars to keep an eye out for as far as thier performance.

I was wondering about the N/As out there with the basic mods...CAI and muffler. Seems as if everything made now a days has more HP than us ie. nissan ultima with 273 hp or those pesky subarus that just have insane poitential. Im afraid to flex on most anything for fear of getting spanked by a car full of kids in a something thats putting out 250plus HP
Just wondering if the xf can hold its own against what? Far as I know its faster that the v6 mustang 4.0 and a nissan sentra

Any other experiences? Civics, genesis, VW

I know for a fact that the N/A Crossfire bone stock can beat a stock Civic Si and an RX-8 (if the guy driving can't shift right). The RX-8 is about the closest performance wise to our Crossfire's. Yes we are getting left behind but don't worry about those Altima's. Our cars have amazing low end torque and I think our cars could beat an Altima from a dead stop. Yeah we might not have much modding potential but if your worried about getting left in the dust then a little spray can go a long way with our cars. Myself I'm not worried about horsepower all that much. To me my car is a cruiser that catches the eye of many and to me that is better than any horsepower. If I was worried about horsepower then I would be driving one of those new 5.0 Mustang GT's.

You can beat the new 305 HP V6 Mustang, not 0-60, but since they have a governor that stops them at 114 or 115......you can leave them crying as you go on to 151!!!!

Pooly, good thread.

The only time I have ever tried someone on the streets, it was a 350Z with at least an exhaust (I wager to say that may have been it) and I had my modded black XF and went for it. We were basically neck and neck, but I pulled a half car on him to about 70. Pulled up to the next light and nodded at each other, he said he was surprised at my XF, quite frankly, so was I....

The stock Z is a great N/A Crossfire matchup, especially since they're very similar in application (2-door sporty N/A coupe).

Numbers-wise a lightly modded Crossfire should be somewhat comparable to an old base, stock 350Z, with a slight horsepower advantage to the Z.
After 2005 the 6MT Z's engine was slightly improved (mostly tuning) and I'd start to worry a lot more about them.
The 2007 Z with the VQ35HR is definitely winning the horsepower game by a wide margin.

If I were up against a Z with an automatic I would seriously try to beat it, otherwise it'd be up to the shifting ability of both drivers and a race would just be close enough to be fun (I sure wouldn't put money on my Crossfire).

The 350Z tuner market is much bigger, though, so there are lot of beastly Zs roaming around.

Midrange 3-series BMWs (328, older 330) are also decent/fair competition but 335s are definitely well into SRT-6 territory.

I have played around with a buddies 2008 civic SI sedan (manual) at a few stop lights with my N/A and pulled away quite easily each time.

I have also done a few runs with a friends 2005 Honda S2000 which has a heavily modded exhaust. Surprisingly I kept up with him from a 2nd gear roll up to 80 MPH, but he took an early lead when beginning from a dig. I was surprised because those honda's tend to lack on the low-end where as that is the crossfire's strong suit.

By the way all these vehicles are manual trans including mine.

Mmm.. I used to race around my little town in Sierra Vista without much modding other than a K&N Air Filter and my prototype performance clutch.

Once, I beat a 370Z. I always take off from lights at a decent little clip, and I look over and notice that this 370 is starting to pull up fast beside me.. So, what do I do? I drop it down a couple gears and press that pedal down! I start slowly pulling away (guy didn't have any clue how to shift, obviously), and left him in my dust at about 85 in a 45.. Which is when my girlfriend at the time looks over her shoulder and yells "Cops!" Well... first one pulled him over, and the second one.... well.... let's just say that I didn't get a ticket that day.

Another time I raced a Audi TT on the way up to Tucson, but I kept leaving him in the dust because he didn't want to go past 135 mph.. I was just tooling up the road on the way to Tucson, and I look in my mirror and see him start to pass cars two cars behind me and start riding up my tailpipes.. So, of course, I decide it'd be fun to play around! Drop it down a gear and press down that pedal again (if you haven't noticed, tis my favorite thing to do with my Crossfire.. =D). We were neck and neck for a little bit, till again, I out-shifted him and got to the on-ramp ahead of him. From there, it was smooth sailing. I'd slow down to let him catch up, and then just beast him again. Wasn't really a competition, honestly. And this one was -without- my custom clutch.

So yes, in an '05 N/A with no modding, I've done quite well at beating 'kiddos' around the block. But then again, I like to push my cars to their absolute limit, and not leave anything hanging.

Sorry man, but I can not even believe you could come close, a 350Z w/o mods is a hell of a race against an NA, but a 370? These things are about as fast as an OEM SRT with 100 more HP than you or I....

Hahaha!! I know, Boiler! I don't know even know -how- I managed to beat him, but I did. I have no reason to lie about it, that's for sure. The guy obviously didn't know how to shift his vehicle is the only thing I can think... but you could tell he was trying to race me... <shrug> I know that they have more horsepower and everything than our cars.. I don't know why I was pulling away, but there you have it. If it'd beaten me, I wouldn't have put it up to boast about it!

I stopped worrying about what cars can be beaten when I realized that a 6 cyl Sonata or even a new 4 cyl turbo Sonata can beat me in a straight run. But I know I can make that up when some curves are thrown in. In any event, I rather enjoy the looks people give me when I ride by in my roadster so nice and easy is good too.

I really can't say what's faster than a NA car from actual experience, because it seems like NOBODY ever challenges me anymore since I've swapped hoods.
I can tell you about 3 cars I backed down though.
A newer Mustang GT, Porsche 930, and a S2000. In all 3 circumstances I noticed their owners were driving aggressivly thru traffic for some time before I finally was able to pull up beside them. After checking my car out, suddenly they became the most docile, law abiding citizens on the road.lol
"Intimidation" is one of the best performance mods you can make.
As far as I know, nobody ever gets a "moving" violation for that.
