Another Traffic Stop
Re: Another Traffic Stop
Over 35k on the roadster and only one pull-over (deserved - forgot to slowdown on a highway when the speed limit dropped from 70 to 55; but let go with warning). Around town I stick to the speed limit and on the highway, where everyone in MI drives 5-15 over I keep my radar detector on all the time. Never pulled over in the SRT6 after 7k miles. Have not been pulled over in a chipped A6 2.7T in 150k miles of driving the same way as I drive the roadster. I think sporty and fast looking cars attract everyone's attention, including law enforcement, more than boring Toyota's and Honda's. What pisses me off is driving any of my cars at 70-75 and having some environmentally smug dipstick in a Prius pass me.

Our cars are cop magnets. I have driven hundreds of thousands of miles in various cars (including my camaro) and never got pulled over until the crossfire.

I am always over the limit by 5 or 10 and sometimes by 25! I keep thinking that, SOMEDAY I'm gonna get nabbed for being at least 20 over and I KNOW I've got to slow it down, but the 6 speed is just too much fun to wind thru the gears.
I always said I'd drive a stick slower and more conservatively cause I"m bored with the auto - but the fact is, this has not been the case. I'm worse with the 6 speed. WAY WORSE.
But, I'm somewhat smart about when and where and for how long to speed - you can't just SPEED all of the time.
I expected the Red one to be a cop magnet - turns out, both cars are BABE magnets, but not cop magnets.

I have been pulled over twice since purchase in Jan 2007. Once was an April fool joke my son's State trooper friend pulled. But the other was me going 45 in a 25 in nowhere Arkansas. Cop liked the car and the SRT Sharko was driving along with me.
When we explained it was the raffle Car for CAA he let me off with a warning.
Closest I have been to a ticket in the Crossie.
Not like I haven't deserved one. I am way overdue.

Re: Another Traffic Stop
You might think about your driving habits.
For over two years we have two owned 2008 Crossfire coupes, one Red and one Oyster Gold. We have driven in 3 NW States with both cars and have a combined total of 17000 miles on the two and have never had a policeman stop us. They often look admiringly as we pass though.
Of course we are senior citizens that worked long and hard for our retirement money and are very careful how we spend it. It's my thought that paying a traffic fine is one of the poorest and dumbest ways of spending your money. There is a time and place for everything. Choose wisely!
I learned long ago that the "race-horses" are going to be sitting at the next traffic light with me alongside them. They have risked a costly ticket while I got only admiring glances. I'm convinced!

Re: Another Traffic Stop
I only got stopped once in my Crossfire, right after I put plates on it for the first time. I was on a city street and a county mounty stopped me, I was only going about 25mph and no jackrabbit starts. He walked up to the door looked inside and said, "I'm sorry I thought you're plates were expired". Really?...
Re: Another Traffic Stop
Told me when people used to ask him that, he used to say "I do, I'm just not doing it" and then hand them a ticket.[/quote]
When I was asked that, I usually respond with, "Yes, I do have something better to do, but you caught my attention and here we are. Having this nice conversation. I will be right back." LOL....Vegas, someone has your number pal. Being a defense attorney can be trying at times, I am sure. I would never do that to the those I know. But, if they were doing something wrong, I would stop them. Just wouldn't write them. Pretty close knit group in this county, everyone respects one another. I have had lunch with many of the attys here, and the judges, and everyone knows their place. Maybe you need to talk with one of their supervisors if you think you are being singled out. Good luck counciler...

And now we have the "other half" of the story
Vegas is a big deal city but in reality a very small town. I think Doc pegged it.
Might help to make some new friends Vegas.

If you are half as charming with them as you let on in your posts about your interactions with them, then its entirely possible that they are targeting your car every time they see it on the road.
And no, our cars are not cop magnets.
Bat's car has only been pulled over once in the past 2+ years and 13k+ miles, and that was really early on, and didn't result in anything more than a barking K-9 officer in the back of the truck, plus a slight talking to from the actual Police Officer about not enjoying the throttle nearly as much in town.
That's with 2 different drivers at the wheel, and we live in a much more metropolitan area than you do, I do believe, with a much higher number of different police department territories that we drive through. Off the top of my head, Bat's drive to work takes her through 3 different municipal police department territories (Westminister, Arvada, Broomfield), two counties for sheriffs (Jefferson and Adams), and then there's the State Troopers that cover the area, too. That's just in a 9 mile drive, too.
I know it sucks to have it happen to you repeatedly, but until you have a friend driving another Crossfire in your town, and that person tells you that they are constantly getting pulled over whenever they drive their Crossfire in town, you are going to have to assume that its either just a thing your cops have against you and your car.

Re: Another Traffic Stop
Been driving since 77 and never got a ticket. Its crazy here in NH seacoast area, we have really good highways yet the speed limit is 55 When i first got back here I did the limit and got tailgated, cut off and everything else that comes with driving to slow. Now I do 62mph which seems reasonable cause everyone else is averaging 70-85 all the time.

If you did go to court you would have a snow ***** chance in hell of getting anywhere other than have your car targeted every time it went on the road.
Take your lumps and keep your mouth shut, it will get better as your hair (if you have any) gets grayer.

As I ... ahem ... learned when I drove to check out my SRT with my wife in her Charger that she got from her son, southern plates and tint. I got a taste of DWB, Pennsylvania style on MLK Day.
Picked up a county mounty tailgater on I-76 and when I turned onto one of the US routes instead of going on the Turnpike, the guy lit us up.
Had you seen the expression on the guy's pasty face as he got out to write us up, you'd have thought he was going to bust a john and his "date". That thought did not leave his head even as he looked vacantly at our papers, including my HSPD12 and her business card listing her Ph.D and executive position at a local institution.
Fortunately her employers have a full time law enforcement official on payroll whose sole job is to liase with area agencies and avoid these, um, misunderstandings. They know the history of poli sci from Boss *** to Sheriff Joe.
With his cheese-eating grin, all he could muster was that "tinted windows are illegal in Pennsylvania".
Fully one third of the vehicles we passed the rest of the way from limos to pickup trucks and compacts with PA plates also had tinted windows
