Default Crossfire Block Heater

At the moment on Ebay are advertised Block Heaters for the Crossfire, apparently to screw into the block.
Has anyone bought and used one of these, and how and where do they fit.

Also wondering that myself. Would love to have one if it's easy enough to install.

I am familiar with the type that installs into a frost plug hole. I have, but never installed a type the fitted into a radiator return hose, this was a heat pump that used the warmed water to operate the pumping action. Clever but I could never be bothered to fit it.

Our engines warm up so quickly I wonder if they would do much good unless you lived in the far North.

Stay away from these like aids. You mess with the block on this car and you're going to be wishing you were flexible enough to kick your own *ss.

Mercedes uses a coolant heater connected to the waterpump. If you want to add it, you'll need to order the following parts from Mercedes:

A 112 203 00 61 - Cooling-Water Preheater Housing
A 606 200 00 96 - Preheater
A 000 159 29 32 - Preheater Connecting Cable
A 006 997 75 48 - Seal Ring
A 210 501 53 82 - Hose Water Pump Heater Unit
A 202 501 69 82 - Hose Between Water Pump Heater Unit And Radiator Bottom
N 000000 002775 - Clamp Water Pump Heater Unit (qty. 2)
N 000000 001117 - Hexalobular Bolt Housing To Timing Case Cover M6X23 (qty. 2)

It's about $300 in parts but if you're dead set on adding a block heater to this car, this is the right way to do it. After seeing the fiasco that happened with the throttle bodies, I figured I'd post this so at least the correct information is here on the forum.

BTW, if your car is originally from Canada, you only need the Preheater Connecting Cable as the rest of the parts are already in your car.

Good luck and take care

You've been around Beaner too long.
Normally we just light a fire under the engine and toast some wieners while we wait. So they put in a heater to save the plastic engine pan.

We have the heater housing installed and where the heater goes is a blank brass threaded fitting. This is removed and the heater threaded in its place, the new part has the terminals on it. So Canadians need the cable and the heater.
Edit
I think Rudy may be correct - again, The brass fitting has a plastic cover on it and that is probably protecting the terminals. I cannot get a grip on it to remove it to make it definite, but there would be no need for the plastic cap otherwise.
That Rudy is always correct, I hate guys like that.

They probably want a fortune for the heater and cable at the stealership, but it is around $35 on line.

On a Benz forum a Canadian dealer wanted $317 for the cable. Another Canadian dealer wanted $600 plus $200 labor for a heater kit fitted.

The heaterkit.

Block Heater

I came from England and we say 'Eh' as well.

I come from a little burg in NE MO calle "Kahoka." We say "eh"all the time. I don't think it's patented.

Seems I have been sayin' "eh" a lot lately. For example, earlier Crumpy says there is sumthin' wrong with my hearing. I say "eh?" I don't wear any earing.

Nite guys.

Somebody help me, this is not for keeping the block warm in (very) cold climates when the engine is shut down, rather it's for allowing the engine to warm quickly...???

Can someone elaborate...

Thanx...

Disregard, I just saw the pix with the 3-prong house plug so I'll assume it's for warming a shut down engine...

So if I am looking at this correctly, the US cars have a 1 piece lower radiator hose, where as the CAN cars have 2 piece hose with the heater housing in between? Very interesting.
