Why I hate SUVs and teenagers
Why I hate SUVs and teenagers
I was driving home from work on Friday, and just as I crest a hill, what do I see? A Chevy Tahoe, driving in my lane, and coming straight towards me. With a cliff and trees on the right, I had no real choice but to swerve left, but I didn't make it...I was doing the speed limit of 25 mph, however, given the damage done to the Crossfire, I highly doubt the teenager, whom was only 17 and driving his parent's Tahoe, was doing the limit..
No one was hurt, but the same cannot be said about my Crossfire...

Re: Why I hate SUVs and teenagers
17 is often (always?) too young to drive.
The lack of experience, the lack of recognition and understanding of risk, the feeling of immortality that goes with being young - all add up to what I just said, 17 is too young to drive, in many cases.
Boortz has a good online diatribe where he makes the case better than I do.

It's what I refer to as my "reserve car"; a 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier Z/24 Convertible. And while it's no Crossfire, it's better than having no car at all.
I might get another Crossfire, if I can find one. But if I can't find another Crossfire not, I might get one of these;

Re: Why I hate SUVs and teenagers
I agree with the above post. Go at them 100%. I don't care how young they are. Maybe it'll show the parents what a horrible job they did parenting a kid that has no regard for safety.
Seriously, kids are given EVERYTHING (this includes people my own age) now. They took your Crossfire from you. Repay the favor.

Damn, that's terrible, I'm embarrased to be part of my generation 99% of them are such dumbasses, glad no one was hurt, hope that idiot gets what he has commig to him, sadly it will probably be nothing more than a slap on the hand from daddy. Sorry for you loss, stay strong!
Re: Why I hate SUVs and teenagers
Sorry for the loss of your car but I am very glad to hear that no one was hurt. Damn right go after them. In you lane, on a hill, in a no passing zone, and probably speeding. Its the only way the kid will learn.
I don't think careless driving is as much of an age thing but how they are brought up. I've been driving since I was 15 because I was working. I needed to drive to get to work. No major accidents here either.

If you don't have the money, I'd get the money somehow.

Either way, I was more in shock than anything else. I just couldn't believe that my Crossfire, which I had for four years to the very day, was gone.

I can't remember the last time I even saw a Crossfire for sale near me, they don't seem that easy to come by.
Re: Why I hate SUVs and teenagers
They are and they aren't - had to fly to Arizona to find my Graphite one... the Red one was about 1 1/2 hours from me.
There is (or was) a white Coupe in middle Georgia last month with 50,000 on it, VERY clean, and with new tires for $10,500 and the dealership was eager to move it.
There is a black limited here in town - they want $10977 but I am sure you could get it for under $10K.
Look around, they are out there, I had a blast this fall looking at XF's!

Re: Why I hate SUVs and teenagers
Maybe I missed it, but I don't remember where you said that you then dragged the kid out of his parent's SUV, and then beat the living tar out of him in order to get the reason why he was driving on your side of the road.
So, what was his reason for driving on your side of the road?
I remember being 17, but I never drove on the wrong side of the road, not once.
BC.

Re: Why I hate SUVs and teenagers
Sounds like texting to me.
I thought about buying a Camaro before deciding on the Crossfire. Don't limit yourself to your city or state. Crossfires are easy to find in very good condition and with very low miles. The fun part is hopping on a plane, and driving it home (the part about hopping on a plane isn't so fun, unless you have arranged for private hire).
Good to see you survived a head-on collision. I think you need to tell the SUV owner's insurance company that your neck is starting to hurt, and you're not signing anything until you see a doctor.
