Texting, for sure. That's all the idiots do, is text.

Yep-Double Yellow.

I hate to say it, but most folks down here aren't really too sure what that means.

Sorry to see that.

Hey Chris glad you are ok. Curious what your insurance company said?? Or did you turn it in to the kids insurance company? If the kid was ticketed he should be liable and his negligence caused you to swerve.
Don't worry about the Camaro pics, quite a few of us have had that temptation. I had a 70 1/2 Z-28 so I was very tempted by the new ones but I just traded my Crossfire on a Cobra. Totally impractical but fun.

Chris, sorry to hear about this and glad you were not hurt. From the pics it looks like you did all you could do and the Crossfire again did a great job protecting it's driver. As others have stated I would go after this guy 100%. If you decide on another Crossfire don't forget what an asset the members here can be in taking a first look at out of state cars that are not near you. The search will be half the fun and you are lucky to have a back up car. Good luck with the insurance and start dreaming about that SRT.

Amazing impact! Glad you're OK.

Texting is most likely the reason. The police or better yet your attorney should sequester his cell phone records to see what activity was happening on his phone at the time. He was a minor driving his parents car. You could very well have a case to get more money than the damages to your Crossfire. Don't just settle for an insurance car replacement.

Good luck!

Yea, I'm fine, although I am now looking for a replacement vehicle, preferably a Crossfire Limited Coupe, matching, the one I had before the wreck. (Specs of the car are in my sig, although it doesn't have to be a 2005 model year, I certainly wouldn't mind something newer than a 2005 Crossfire.)

My thoughts exactly !!!
Damn that looks like a hell of an impact.
Very glad you are OK....I would have never guessed that someone in that car walked away uninjured.
My best to you in finding a suitable replacement.

Glad you were not hurt, Christopher.

What a mess.

A question, tho: How do you explain your spoiler being deployed? Do you always run with the wing up?

X2 - deffinitly go and get the phone records, make the little turd pay for his stupidity!

Glad you were not hurt, and somewhere there is another Crossfire out there for you. Keep to your guns.

You know they are called accidents for a reason.

The lack of experience, the lack of recognition and understanding of risk, the feeling of immortality that goes with being young - all add up to what I just said, 17 is too young to drive, in many cases.

Boortz has a good online diatribe where he makes the case better than I do.
Mark a 17 year old driver is just as experienced as a 26 year old driver that started driving at 25. I think our country has become a little to lawsuit happy.

Maybe Boiler (John) should've sued the state of Tennessee for allowing that creek to be in his way last October. I'm not trying to start a flame war but everyone makes mistakes, and to put a kid who hasn't even started life in the hole for making one just isn't right imho.

under normal circumstances I'd agree with you 13, but not in this case. 17 year old screwing around in Mom's car, just before the point was probably texting, even though that's against the law they can't seem to stop stupid. probably laughing thinking how cool is this, and then is in the wrong lane going much faster than a reasonable speed. Seen these kids do it a 1000X. Then they act like no big deal that's what insurance is there for. It's not the suit I'd be after. The car would be paid for, and nobody hurt badly by the grace. Don't need a lawyer for prosecuting for attempted criminal vehicular homicide-push the county prosecutor to do it and they may just make an example of this kid. because he gets off it just confirms for him that he can do stuff like this again with little ramifications and the next time may end up killing an entire family.

Texting while driving and causing a car crash is not an accident.

Where did you get that statistic? I think you made it up. Too simplified. There's a lot of experience gained with age, son... mainly maturity. Obviously this 17-year-old has not matured much past the age of 14. Perhaps his parents are part of the problem, but at this point, we'd be assuming too much about that.

I think our country has become a little to lawsuit happy.
I'll agree with you, but if it is revealed that he WAS texting AND speeding, it would be the proper procedure for the county prosecutor.

Maybe Boiler (John) should've sued the state of Tennessee for allowing that creek to be in his way last October. I'm not trying to start a flame war but everyone makes mistakes, and to put a kid who hasn't even started life in the hole for making one just isn't right imho.
Your analogy is ludicrous and downright childish. It sure seems like you're trying to start something. This kid certainly DOES need to be put in the hole, and the county/state needs to make an example of him to show just how serious this matter is, and how serious they are in combating it. The fact that no one got killed in this case should NOT undermine the seriousness of the accident.

Good post West. That's the point of all this. The 25 yo with one year of driving is NOT the same as a 17 year old with the same amount. the critical thinking, judgment making ability of the human brain is NOT developed until between the ages of 22 and 25, which explains alot about why kids do what they do. By 25, the 1 year driver has alot more ability to keep themselves out of these situations whereas the 17 yo simply does not think about them at all in the same context. They can't.

The early driving allowance was primarily becuae of farm requirements, and somehow got stuck in our culture. Today it is ludicrous that a 16 yo drives and we give them full license to drive a 3500 weapon around, because that's exactly what it is. The minimum driving age in my opinion is 18. graduated license requirements like the UK has at least for motorcycles, M1, M2 etc. I don't know if they have this for cars but probably should have.

Glad you are OK, It is amazing how well these little cars protect us. If you are really thinking of that Camaro, I would encourage you to drive the new 5.0 Mustang.

It's heartbreaking to see another XF go down. But it seems to have done it's job -- protecting you! It's amazing given the size/weight advantage of a Tahoe. It's why I felt comfortable buying a XF for my son. Best of luck getting a replacement.

A couple years back here in MI a texting girl ran her Hummer through a red light, hitting a Tahoe broadside and killing the passenger. It was the stimulus for the anti-texting law in MI. But as I look out the window at other drivers, I can see it is not followed. A few public hangings would certainly help reinforce the law.
